Congratulations to Mandy Hansen
Past-President Mandy Hansen, RI has contributed to the latest version of a UBC textbook. Mandy contributed real life examples for BUSI 460 Course – Critical Analysis and Forecasting in Real Estate in Lesson 10 – Risk Analysis & Learning from Auditing Experience.
Mandy presented at the Valuing Diversity Conference in May 2016 in Tigh Na Mara on Risk Analysis and one of the participants was John Bridal, RI from UBC. After her session, she was approached and was asked to participate in this work.
This is a great example of how the RI members are experienced, educated and connected leading them to new and exciting opportunities.
Congratulations Garth!
Order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council, Garth Cambrey,RI was appointed as a Vice Chair – Strata of the Civil Resolution Tribunal for a 3 year term beginning July 31, 2016 and ending July 31, 2019.
The Civil Resolution Tribunal is Canada’s first on-line tribunal for resolving strata and small claims disputes and opened its doors for early intake of strata disputes on July 13, 2016.
Small claims disputes are expected to be accepted in early 2017. The CRT encourages a collaborative, problem-solving approach to dispute resolution that will allow many strata disputes to be resolved in a more timely and efficient manner, and for less cost than going to the Supreme Court.

Meet Maryna Shmyk, Student Member
I graduated from the BCIT Real Estate Program this past May and through a deep interest in development and design, I was fortunate to earn the opportunity to begin my career with MOSAIC Homes.
I work as an analyst and project coordinator with the Construction team. My responsibilities include coordinating between trades and consultants, and supporting senior management with project cost estimates and budgeting. A unique aspect of my role is that my position is rotational between departments on a yearly basis. This opportunity ultimately provides me with maximum exposure to every stage that goes into building and selling a home.
Despite being a recent graduate, I continuously work toward expanding my knowledge in the different facets of the industry while also taking advantage of new learning opportunities.
At the moment, I am most looking forward to the upcoming projects I have the opportunity to be a part of and to witness their progress and success.
Meet Guy Akester, RI
I started my career in real estate at Colliers International in Vancouver in 1995 as a summer student and I knew on my first day that I was hooked for life.
After many years with Colliers in Vancouver, I spent 10 years based out of Toronto, London, Shanghai and then Hong Kong doing real estate portfolio management for companies such as Goldman Sachs, Macquarie Bank, Alcan and FedEx. I returned to Vancouver with TELUS in late 2009 to manage their global real estate portfolio where my team and I put together the 1 million square foot TELUS Garden mixed use project.
I am currently responsible for the real estate portfolio at TransLink which includes retail, parking, telecom, commercial partnerships, strategic and IPP acquisitions, and surplus land sales. In addition to this, and probably one of the most exciting parts of my job, I have responsibility for development approvals and partnerships for some 43 million square feet of current development projects with close proximity to SkyTrain and transportation assets. Without a doubt the best part of my job and working at TransLink is that I can have a real and material impact on reducing the burden on the taxpayer while simultaneously helping make the Vancouver region an even nicer place to live.
I have lived in nine cities in six countries and have had the great fortune of travelling to over 50 countries. I enjoy downhill mountain biking on the North Shore, snowboarding and playing soccer. I received a B. Com from The University of Victoria and an MBA from The University of Edinburgh.

Meet Justin Allin, RI
Since my late teen years I have had a keen interest in real estate. After managing my own small portfolio of investment properties, I decided to make a career in real estate and went back to school to obtain my Bachelor of Business in Real Estate from UBC.
In 2010, I had a short stint with BC Assessment and later moved to the private sector as a commercial real estate appraiser and have since obtained my AACI and RI designations. I spent most of my early years in the appraisal field with a small boutique firm called Equity Valuation and am currently working with Colliers International’s Valuation department. I enjoy the variety this job provides as it takes me all over the province looking at a wide range of property types. I particularly enjoy working in the areas of expropriation, litigation and First Nation land leases, but find gratification in most of the appraisals I am asked to perform.
Since July 2015, I have also been a Director for the REIBCs Vancouver chapter, where we strive to organize interesting learning events and fun meet and greets for all of the spirited members of the Vancouver chapter. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, spending time with friends and family, spending time outdoors and snowboarding. I also partake in some of the finer things in life, such as travel, fine whisky, hip-hop music and cars (I love my Audi!).
On a personal note, I vacationed this July in London, Paris and Malta, and got engaged in Paris to my wonderful fiance, so my main goal over the next year is surviving the joys of wedding planning!
