Welcome a new RI! 

Whether you have years of experience or are new to the industry, REIBC is your key to career advancement and connection with the real estate industry. Naz Khedri, RI

Naz_Khedri_photo.JPGA profession in real estate wasn’t something that I initially planned for. While taking a business course in high school I was introduced to an individual who worked in real estate, someone who would later become a mentor of mine.  As I continued my schooling and graduated high school my communication with her continued and I learned a lot about the real estate industry and became more interested in it.

Then, in 2012, in my first year of the B.Com program at the University of Victoria I began an internship with a major real estate firm, the same firm my mentor worked for. I gladly accepted and very quickly real estate became my passion, so much so that I ended up doing two additional co-ops in real estate.

My second and third co-ops were with BC Assessment, the company I am currently with. When the opportunity for an appraiser position in the Vancouver office became available, I applied. Since then, I have been doing my best to learn as much as possible.

I always love to travel! I was born in Kazakhstan and moved to Victoria, BC with my family when I was 4 years old. I grew up there and in 2015 moved to Vancouver.  I’ve been very fortunate and had the amazing opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Nantes, France while completing my B. Com.  I’ve been to 12 countries and countless cities. I am looking forward to my next big trip which will either be to Eastern Europe or Southeast Asia!

You will be missed ...

This month the REIBC was notified of two tragic and unexpected losses. Olive Campbell, RI and J.-F. Proulx, RI are no longer with us. The REIBC and it's community offer our deepest and most sincere condolences to both of their families and loved ones. 

olive_campbell.jpgOlive Campbell, RI was the Founder & Managing Broker of Pacific Dawn Property Management. With more than 40 years of diversified experience in commercial, retail, residential, and light industrial property management and leasing, Olive was responsible for the foundation, vision and growth of Pacific Dawn.

Olive was an RI designated member for the past 26 years. She was also very involved in the real estate industry having had national affiliations with the Real Estate Institute of Canada, the Asset Management Council of Western Canada and the International Council of Shopping Centers. She held positions on the board of the Institute of Real Estate Management and was also on the Regulator, Education & Licensing Advisory Committee for the Real Estate Council of BC. Olive served as a director of the REIBC for a one year term as well as on the Building Owners and Managers Association for a two year term.

A very accomplished real estate professional, Olive was down-to-earth, straight forward and honest and this contributed to her outstanding success. 

High_Resolution_Image_of_J_-F_Proulx_M_Sc_CRP_July_19_2016.jpgJean-François Proulx, M.Sc., CRP, RI was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in North Vancouver on December 1st, and did not survive. J.-F. was passionate about his work and his involvement within the real estate industry. 

He was a keynote speaker on depreciation reports and was published in CHOA’s Journal, CCI BC’s Condo News, REIC Exchange, CondoLiaison, and more. His writings are on many websites across Canada. J.-F. was active in REIC's CRP Task Force and was teaching reserve fund planning and reporting across Canada.

J.-F. was also involved at REIBC having recently sat on the social media committee. He also hosted a successful webinar on depreciation reports this past October. J.-F. also served as Vice-president of la Société de la Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver (SMFV).

Few professionals have worked as, and for, contractors, engineers and appraisers, fostering DR divisions along the way. Realizing the merits of the functional benchmark methodology, he became a Certified Reserve-fund Planner (CRP) in 2014, and created Constructive Condo Reporting Corp. in 2015.  

Jean-François is survived by his wife Mouna, and young daughter. As some of his colleagues have wrote, he was a mentor, a true leader, a man truly passionate about his career.

Mercedes_Wong_2018.jpgMercedes Wong, RI, CRE, Vice President of International Development at Prominent Real Estate Services was awarded the CRE® (Counselor of Real Estate) credential by The Counselors of Real Estate®, an international group of high profile real estate practitioners who provide expert advisory services to clients on complex real property and land-related matters. The credential was awarded in October at The Counselors' 2018 Annual Convention in Charleston, South Carolina. 

Membership in The Counselors of Real Estate is selective and is extended by invitation only, attesting to the practitioner's expertise and proven competence in his or her chosen area of real estate. Members receive the CRE credential in recognition of proven competence in his or her chosen area of real estate. Members receive the CRE credential in recognition of proven superior problem-solving ability. Once invited to membership, Counselors must adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Practice. Counselors are recognized in the marketplace as having consistently demonstrated the highest levels of knowledge, experience, integrity and judgement. Fewer than 1100 real estate professionals currently hold the CRE credential.

The Counselors of Real Estate, established in 1953 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is an international professional organization whose members provide objective, reliable advice and counsel on matters affecting all forms of real property in the United States and Abroad. Members include ranking representatives of real estate consulting, financial, legal and accounting firms as well as leaders of Wall Street, government and academia.

The 2018 Presidents Luncheon

This years' luncheon was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Vancouver on Thursday Dec 6, 2018.  With nearly 200 people in attendance, Stephanie Allen the Vice President of Project Planning and Partnerships at Catalyst Community Development Society, Mandy Hansen, Principal at Insight Specialty Consulting, and Jennifer Johnstone, President & CEO of Central City Foundation discussed the value, risk and return of building inclusive communities. Their discussion offered different perspectives of dealing with the issue of real estate development and affordability; how they do it, why they do it, and who they do it for.

A huge thank you goes out to Vancity, our Title Sponsor this year as well as Landcor Data Corporation, our Venue Sponsor, BC Housing, our Event Sponsor, BC Notaries Association, our AV Sponsor and our table sponsors AEC Property Tax, BC Asssessment, Real Estate Foundation of BC, Real Estate Council of BC and UBC Sauder School of Business Real Estate Divsion!

REIBC Holiday Receptions

Over the past month and a half REIBC hosted holiday events around the province visiting Terrace, Kamloops, Dawson Creek, Prince George, Abbotsford, Cranbrook, Surrey, Kelowna, Courtenay, Burnaby, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria.

All of the events provided wonderful opportunities for RI members along with other real estate professionals to celebrate the holiday season. REIBC also presented its research on non-resident ownership of property. The research can be found on our website. REIBC Charity Golf Tournament

daniel_jamie_rob_big_chque.JPGREIBC is pleased to announce that $32,709 was raised at the 25th Annual Charity Golf Tournament that took place on June 18th, 2018 at Richmond Country Club all of which was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon. 

In early November a member of the Make-a-Wish foundation Board, Jamie Levchuk, joined REIBC President Daniel John, RI and Golf Chair, Rob Riechelt, RI to accept the cheque.

To date, REIBC has donated more than a half a million dollars to charity and looks forward to next year's tournament. The 2019 Tournament will once again be held at the Richmond Country Club! Mark your calendars for June 26, 2019. We look forward to seeing you all there.
