Changes to Vancouver's Housing Market

In recent weeks changes have been made to the housing market in Canada.  On December 11th a news bulletin was released announcing that the federal government was hoping to change minimum down payments required for some homes in an attempt to cool the hot housing markets in Canada's hub cities:Vancouver and Toronto.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced the minimum down payment for a $500,000 home will remain at 5% but an additional 10% down payment will apply for anything beyond that.

You can read the Business in Vancouver article here

A few days later another article surfaced, also in the BIV, that suggested that it would not, in fact, have any effect on the "high end" of the Vancouver market- which now includes modest detached family homes - even as the United States Federal Reserve's expected interest rate hike will likely make Vancouver real estate even more attractive to investor buyers.
