On January 9, 2014 four of REIBC’s professional members' Cameron Carter, Appraiser; Susan Antoniali, Property Manager; Daniel John, Residential Realtor; and Tom Garvey, Commercial Realtor spoke to folks at Langara College about their professions. The four items they were asked to speak about were: 1) A brief description of their specialty, 2) A routine workday and professional objectives, 3) A typical entry-level position, salary range, and qualifications and 4) The best part of your career. The talks were very interesting and the one thing we learned was that each professional loves what they do and are proud of the RI designation. Thank you to Susan, Cam, Tom and Daniel.

The HSBC Bank of Canada will be closing many of its small-business accounts. Current small-business clients have been given a 60-day deadline to find loans from new bankers. This global banking decision will have huge effects on small-business banking in the near future. Read the Business in Vancouver article here:

BC Assessment Explores Innovative Geospatial 3D Modelling for Property Assessment
To help improve better innovation functions, BC Assessment has signed an agreement with Esri Canada, provider of enterprise geographic information system (GIS) technology.
The Geospatial 3D Modelling Solution is a technology that analyzes information which will help appraisers conduct the valuation of properties with accuracy and in a timely transactions.
Jason Grant, Assessor for Vancouver Sea to Sky Region said, “It is challenging to physically inspect this property type for assessment purposes. We hope that the 3D modelling solution from Esri Canada will enable us to further enhance the accuracy of our property data and increase our operational efficiencies.”

Professional Development Survey
In December of 2013 into the early part of 2014, REIBC sent out a survey on Professional Development. We asked our professional members for their thoughts on the professional development opportunities that are currently available to them, as well as for some thoughts on what they might like to see moving forward. Up for grabs was the brand new iPad Air! All those who completed the survey were entered into a draw to win this wonderful prize. Congratulations Rob Howard! The Real Estate Foundation of BC is pleased to welcome Jim Rempel to the Board of Governors. He was appointed by the Province in December 2013.
Jim is one of two Ministry of Finance appointees. He shares the responsibilities of the board with:
- Kelly Lerigny (2013-2014 Chair) - appointed by the BC Real Estate Association in 2010
- Scott Ullrich (2013-2014 Vice-chair) - appointed by the Real Estate Institute of BC in 2012
- Gerry Martin – appointed by the Real Estate Council of BC in 2013
The final board position is awaiting appointment from the Ministry of Finance.
Jim is a REALTOR® with Landmark Realty in Abbotsford, a company he co-founded over 20 years ago. His hands-on experience in various trades, sales and finance complement his real estate career. Jim enjoys working in his shop, travelling, playing golf and hockey, and spending time with his wife, three sons and granddaughter.
