Damien Roussin, RI

Damien-2EditedCentred.jpgI started my career in 2007 with Dorset Realty Group, managing student and market rental housing projects at UBC.  Along with learning about facilities management and the ins and outs of the Residential Tenancy Act, I grew thick skin.  Managing side by side student and family housing projects taught me about the non-technical challenges of property management.

I am now the Chief Executive Officer at Dorset Realty Group in Richmond.  My role is to lead the company through our planned (and un-planned) strategies and objectives.  I also maintain a portfolio of long term and key clients.

Having grown with the company, I’ve worked in trading, property management and leadership roles.  While spending time in each department, I also studied for a handful of real estate licenses and my MBA.  The front-line experience and formal education helped prepare me for my current role.  Now, as the CEO, I work with different teams every day which I find challenging and exciting.  I learn from everyone around me every day and I love that!  The people (our teammates, clients, customers and community) are my ‘why’.

Outside the office, you can find me with my family or on my bike.  My wife and I do our best to get away for weekend trips and longer adventures, whatever we can fit in.  I also cycle whenever the weather will allow.  I find the physical and mental grind of road cycling to be humbling and invigorating.  If I choose the music, it’s going to be Country.

You will be missed ...

andrew_peck.jpgIt is with great sadness the we share with you news of the passing of Andrew Peck, he was 59. A fourth generation British Columbian Andrew began his real estate career in 1983.  In 1988 he joined the REIBC as a professional member, and held his RI designation for almost 20 years.

Andrew Peck was the broker owner, vice-president and general manager of Royal Pacific Realty Group. He oversaw more than 1,250 residential and commercial REALTORS® and a staff of 30 in five offices, as well as New World Realty, which together sold more than $15.1 billion worth of real estate in 2016.

Andrew was very involved in various areas of the real estate industry over his 36-year career. Andrew spent eight years serving as a Director for Canadian Real Estate Association having served on every committee within the association. Throughout his career Andrew held the role of President for the Canadian Real Estate Association, Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and British Columbia Real Estate Association.

He taught leadership courses, helped guide young professionals, was passionate about progressive governance and made sure to share that knowledge with several boards.

Our thoughts are with his husband, Paul Croes, family and friends during this difficult time. Andrew expressed his desire to have contributions made to the BC Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Rental Housing Review Recommendations and Findings

In April 2018, Premier John Horgan appointed a Rental Task Force to advise on how to improve security and fairness for renters and rental housing providers throughout the province.  The Task Force was appointed to look specifically at the Residential Tenancy Act, the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act and the processes of the Residential Tenancy Branch.

The Task Force was led by Vancouver-West End MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert, who serves as the Premiers Advisor on Residential Tenancy. The task force also included MLA's Adam Olsen and Ronna-Rae Leonard.

In mid-December the Rental housing review was completed.  Click here to view the full Recommendations and Findings.
