Que-Tran Hoang, RI
Que-Tran started her real estate career in 2015 as a Real Estate Appraiser at Niemi LaPorte and Dowle Appraisals Ltd. In 2019, she earned her AACI, P.App designation. She currently works as a Freelance Real Estate Appraiser & Consultant at Canvas Appraisals Ltd. and loves her job. The profession allows her to contribute her expertise and help end users make informed decisions and eventually reduce the negative affect on the next economic meltdown. Que-Tran loves to meet like-minded people from different sectors of the real estate industry. For this reason, she dedicates part of her schedule for attending industry events or reaching out individuals to meet one-on-one to learn from them. In December 2022, she was appointed to be a member of the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Dispute Advisory Panel by Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Public Works and Government Services. Her role is to give advice to the Minster of Public Works and Government Services in the event that a taxing authority disagrees with the property value, property dimension, or effective rate applicable to any federal property.

In her free time, Que-Tran loves reading to gain more knowledge about the world or to get herself lost in the wonderland of fantasy novels. She also practices Karate and teaches Karate at the Richmond Center Community Center.

2023 Special General Meeting

On February 15, 2023 at 12:00 noon join us via Zoom for a Special General Meeting (SGM) to update the Institute’s bylaws. We will be presenting 3 changes to the members:

1. Removal of the proxy vote as we will be doing electronic general meetings in the future.
2. Changing the number of governors in the Vancouver District and adding one Member at Large.
3. Defining the Past President

You must register for this SGM so that we can send you the link prior to the meeting.

Nominations for the 2023 REIBC Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2023 RI Medals of Excellence – REIBC members are held to the highest standards of integrity and expertise. As part of the elite, RIs are connected to individuals who continually elevate the profession of real estate. Our annual awards are your chance to make a mark and get noticed. At REIBC, we are proud to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions made by RIs each year. The RI, after all, is your assurance of excellence. This year, we are awarding individuals for their excellence in the following categories:

• RI Medal of Excellence for Leadership
• RI Medal of Excellence for Ingenuity
• RI Medal of Excellence for an Emerging Leader
• RI Medal of Distinction

The Grand Farewell

As shared on November 18, REIBC will soon be losing our beloved Executive Officer Brenda Southam at the end of March as she is relocating to Saskatoon, SK to be closer to family. Brenda has been essential to the success and at times, the survival of REIBC and has made such a positive impact to the real estate community, REIBC membership, and sixteen different Boards of Governors.

To mark and honour the occasion of her departure, the REIBC Board has arranged two occasions to express their gratitude and appreciation. Events have been planned to afford members and colleagues to connect with Brenda be they in the local Vancouver area or around British Columbia and the world.

UBC Real Estate Club Networking One-Under Event

Governor Edwin Yan attended UBC Real Estate Club networking event at One-Under on January 25th as Ambassador of the Real Estate Institute of BC. Over 70 students and members of the Real Estate Club were in attendance that night. They had the opportunity to network with approximately 20 expert delegates from the real estate industry such as developers, realtors, mortgage brokers and, of course, our representative from the Real Estate Institute of BC. It was a fun and informative night!

Economic Forecast 2023: A Look at the Past, Present and Future – January 12

On Thursday, January 12, 2023 Bryan Yu, Chief Economist from Central 1 Credit Union joined us to talk about the economy and what it looks like going forward.  As we turn the page on 2022 with war, pandemic and high interest rates what would 2023 look like.  Interest rates are starting to settle, we may have a slowdown in the job market and that is on purpose to slow inflation. BC has about a 1% vacancy rental rate and rents will continue to rise as we have more immigration coming to BC that will likely settle in the bigger centres. Bryan’s final thoughts:

• Housing market in substantial downturn and turnaround unlikely until mid-2023
• Interest rates pressures will continue
• Recession risks build, expect slower labour market
• Population growth a key support for long-term growth
