Meet A Member

Craig Broderick, RI

Craig_Broderick_from_Website.jpgCraig brings over 25 years of planning and development experience to the role of Manager of Current Planning and Approving Officer for the City of Vernon. As part of the Community Infrastructure and Development Services Division, Craig leads a team of planning professionals that are responsible for the provision of all current planning and subdivision services. Building on his education, professional planning background and practical experience, Craig strives to create solutions that result in the best possible outcomes.

Craig completed an Honours Bachelor Degree from the University of Waterloo, School of Urban and Regional Planning and has completed several other training courses in planning and management. He is knowledgeable in many aspects of planning and development, has taught courses related to subdivisions and planning and has served on the Council of the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Craig has been a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners since 1994 and a Member of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia since 2010. While licenced as a Commercial Realtor, his knowledge and experience provided added value to projects and real estate transactions.

Craig enjoys many of the amenities of the Okanagan Valley with his wife Kathy and three children. Craig is active in the community through coaching his children’s sport teams and serving as a Director of the Mackie Lake House Foundation.

Tim Down, RI

Tim_Down_portrait_photo.JPGI started my real estate career in 1988 as a summer student with Steve Cullis Appraisals in Terrace, BC. In 1999 I chose to become an RI after having the opportunity to work with a number of designated mentors like Charles Johnstone and John Yannacopoulos during my time with the BC Assessment Authority. We returned to my family roots in the Okanagan in 2003 and enjoy all the lifestyle benefits of this amazing region.  I am currently the Managing Broker and Principal with NAI Commercial Okanagan in Kelowna, BC as well as the President of PacWest Commercial Real Estate Advisors.

I enjoy all the entrepreneurial aspects of managing and leading a full service real estate brokerage office including research and market analysis, site inspections, valuation, negotiation, mentoring, etc. I enjoy the challenges of working on behalf of clients with unique requirements from sales to leasing for all asset classes. I also provide annual property assessment reviews and appeals in BC and across Canada through my private consulting firm, PacWest Commercial Real Estate Advisors.

I remain active with many professional associations like the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board’s Commercial Zone, BC Commercial Council, as well as a member of the REIBC’s Thompson Okanagan Chapter. I also participate in local non-profits like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and UBCO Junior Heat Volleyball Club.

The BC Land Summit Society is proud to present the 2019 BC Land Summit – Collaborations & Connections – being held May 8 - 10, 2019 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver, BC.

Held every five years, the BC Land Summit is the premier collaborative conference providing interdisciplinary education, professional development, and training opportunities for professional practitioners in fields related to land and land-use in British Columbia.

In anticipation of this great event, we are pleased to invite you to submit your proposal for inclusion in the program for the 2019 BC Land Summit – Collaborations & Connections

Doug Gilchrist, RI

Gilchrist_Doug-2.jpgThompson/Okanagan Governor, Doug Gilchrist, RI has recently been promoted to City Manager for the City of Kelowna. The following is an excerpt from the City of Kelowna's June 21st press release announcement.

“Doug has the qualities we believe are needed to provide continuity in our organization and our community, while at the same time setting us up to meet the new challenges our growing city will encounter in the years ahead,” said Mayor Colin Basran. Doug started his career with the City of Kelowna in 2004 as Manager of Community Development & Real Estate before being named to the Senior Leadership Team in 2008 as Director of Real Estate. In his 14 years with the City of Kelowna, Doug has overseen numerous complex projects, such as acquisition of the CN Rail line for the Okanagan Rail Trail initiative.

One of the key current initiatives underway that Doug will move forward is Imagine Kelowna. In collaboration with Council and the community, the new City Manager will oversee the resources, development, management of budgets and prioritization of work needed to deliver this community vision.

Lita Powell, RI

Lita_Powell_-_Award_of_excellence.jpgLita Powell, RI was awarded the presitigous REIBC Award of Excellence at the 2018 Recognition Dinner held on June 14 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver.

The Award of Excellence is presented each year at the Recognition Dinner to one of the Institute’s members who have been nominated by their peers and selected by a committee of the board.

The Award of Excellence is based on a member who has best demonstrated exceptional and outstanding leadership and contribution to the real estate industry in a manner beyond the expectation of daily business and a member who best demonstrates a continued commitment of contribution to voluntary organizations within their community and the community at large. 

RIs play an integral role within the real estate industry and within their own communities.  This award showcases the contribution of our exceptional members.

Nanaimo  Pub Night 

Nanaimo_Pub_Night.jpgOn June 21st the Nanaimo REIBC members met at the Longwood pub for a casual night of networking and presentations. Our presenters were John Cooper, Bill Corsan and Bruce Storrey.

John Cooper provided an interesting update as to what is happening within the Nanaimo real estate market and the new rules for realtors. 

Bill Corsan highlighted the new developments and City lead initiatives and Bruce Storry provided tips on how to appraise forestry. A great night was had by all. Thank you to all of our members for coming out.

REIBC 2018 Charity Golf Tournament

The 2018 Golf Tournament took place on June 18, 2018. The weather was fantastic and all 140 golfers had a great time. We had a number of winners this year with the winning team being that of TEAM 10B, headed by our own Judi Whyte (right). 1st_Place_Golf_Winners.JPG
