BCIT Meet the Pros - Commercial

 IMG_0729.jpg

The BCIT Meet the Pros held at the BCIT Burnaby Campus on February 26th was a success!

Below is the message of Ryan Jensen, real estate marketing student and president of BCIT Real Estate Association.

"Meet the Pro’s is an extremely beneficial night for the BCIT Real Estate Association. We have 20 – 25 students come out and give them the chance to talk to 7 – 8 industry professionals. This allows the professionals to speak personally to a group of 4 or 5 students and answer any questions that they may have. The students always leave the event discussing the new things they have learned. Whether it be a new career path that they discovered or a new piece of info they acquired about an industry they’re interested in, the students always leave with plenty to think about.

Not only does it benefit the students though, we receive plenty of feedback from the industry professionals saying what a fantastic time they had at the event. They are given the unique chance to see the new faces that will be entering the industry and the ability to connect with them for future business. We can’t thank REIBC and the sponsors enough for the support they provide to our school and to our students.~ Ryan Jensen – President, BCIT Real Estate Association

2014 Biggest Real Estate Deal in BC

From the article written by Frank O’Brien, dated March 24, 2015 on the Real Estate page of Business in Vancouver, the 2014 biggest asset deal in BC however is also the most important non-resource agreement ever inked by the First Nation in a Canadian province; the landmark agreement between Canada’s pension fund and a small aboriginal band - did not involve a land sale.

The article mentioned that the former farmland is a component of a 2009 pact agreement with the province that removed 511.5 acres from the Agricultural Reserve and transferred it to the TFN. Ivanhoe is disbursing $600 million to make the largest closed in store under construction in Canada. Board Report

The Board of Governors held its second meeting of 2015 by conference call on February 26.

President Jason Grant reported on his discussions with the Executive Officer concerning the organizational design consultant and the chapter makeup.  The Board wants to improve Chapter involvement to better serve the members throughout the Province.  An important aspect of this change will be the development of a social media strategy.

The Board approved the Risk Assessment Register as presented and as at every meeting, reviewed another section of the bylaws.

A discussion was also held regarding the upcoming REIBC Education Symposium and it was decided that registration numbers were not sufficient to hold this event.  Further promotion will be made and if necessary the Symposium will be cancelled and then a Webinar may be offered by the keynote speaker.  The Board will be reviewing the future of education offerings and where its energy should be focused.

The next meeting of the Board of Governors will be in Vancouver on March 27, 2015.

Respectfully submitted by,

John Phillips, RI
Governor, Northwest/Prince Rupert and Cariboo District
