REIBC's Strata Governance Program is now available.

Do you live in a Strata? Do you know someone who lives in a Strata? The REIBC's ground-breaking Strata Governance Program is NOW AVAILABLE! This program will equip you with the kind of information that will set you apart from the rest. It will show you how good governance can benefit and protect one of the biggest investments in your life, your home.

The Strata Governance Certificate Program provides guidance in the practice of good governance. We believe that governance training will help strata council members perform their roles and duties with understanding and confidence, thus allowing them to provide the best representation for all the members of the strata corporation.

You don't have to sit on council to benefit from this program.  As an owner in a strata property it's also beneficial to learn about how good governance should dictate the way your Strata runs... be knowledgeable, be proactive!

REIBC Charity Golf Tournament

The REIBC continues to receive updates on the great wishes that are being granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon as a result of many charitable donations, including dollars from REIBC's Charity Golf Tournament. We received the following email from it's CEO Mr. Ross Hetherington.

Dear Friends of Make-A-Wish,

We were able to say ‘yes’ to Esme’s wish to go to Maui with her family thanks to your support!

Every wish that you help us grant carries the wish child and their family from a place of uncertainty to a place of hope and joy, as you can see by the smile on Esme’s face!

Here is Esme’s  Circle of Joy  wish story with our heartfelt gratitude for helping us share the magic of a wish with so many inspiring kids throughout our province.

It is our hope that you will share it with your groups, teams, employees & friends.

We grant wishes because wishes change lives.

From all of us at Make-A-Wish, but especially from our wish kids,  thank you for helping us share the power of a wish®.

Ross and the Make-A-Wish BC&YK Team

The 2016 Golf Tournament is being held on June 22, 2016 at the Richmond Country Club! Click here to register

REIBC Recognition Day

The Chapters of REIBC hosted a series of events on February 18, 2016 to recognize 5, 10, 15, and 20 year members of the Institute.  We heard back from a few of the Chapters and would like to share their thoughts from the events.

Congratulations to all of our recipients!

Thompson/Okanagan Chapter - Vernon Event

There were no recognition certificates to present to the Vernon RI’s, but we celebrated the REIBC Day of Recognition for the second year in a row. The Vernon RI’s got together for lunch at the local Wings Restaurant for a pleasant meal and good company. There were five of us in attendance ( six invited), three retired members and two active. We had a lively discussion as three of us were from private practice and two from government.  Local market and business climate in the Vernon area were of primary interest followed by a brief discussion of the Canadian dollar and its impact of travel and vacations. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the opportunity to meet and get to know one another. - Curt Broughton-

Helping B.C.'s wood building industry hit new heights

It was reported in the March 1-7, 2016 edition of the Business in Vancouver that when the UBC new student residence is completed next year, it will eclipse the eight-storey Wood Innovation and Design Centre in Prince George as the tallest wooden building in BC.

As the world moves towards decarbonization, wood as a building material for high-rises and even bridges is gaining in popularity because concrete and steel production generates a considerable amount of greenhouse gases.  Therefore tall wooden buildings are starting to go up all over North America and Europe, creating a new demand for specialized expertise in solid-wood structural engineering.
