Residential Real Estate Prices Will Be Headed Upward: Immigration, Geopolitics, and Demographics – March 10

Newsletter_Images/richard_kurland_photo.jpgOn March 10th, Richard Kurland led a fascinating webinar about immigration to British Columbia amidst demographic changes, post-pandemic recovery, geopolitics events in Europe and the raise in Canada's immigration targets. He outlined how the processes for attaining permanent residency have changed and how these changes tie into real estate. Residential housing supply is also impacted by these kinds of changes as well as by the mass transfer of wealth taking place between generations. Richard left us with an abundance of insights into what can expected in immigration to BC and the residential real estate market going forward. We thank him for his time and his excellent presentation.

A Better Way Home: Strengthening Consumer Protection in BC Real Estate – March 30

Newsletter_Images/DarleneHyde.jpgThe BCREA: A Betty Way Home webinar was delivered by CEO Darlene Hyde and Vice President Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement of BCREA. Darlene & Trevor discussed their white paper (which you can see here) and what BCREA feels is best moving forward. We also were given a first peak at research that was done by the Council of Public Affairs that denoted blind bidding was not something people were in favour of, the majority of people felt that the Provincial Government needed to take some drastic steps around the housing issues and 76% of the people were happy with their Realtors.

Newsletter_Images/trevor_headshot_002_.JPGOne take away from this webinar: This is a complex issue not only in BC but in Canada and solutions need to be well calibrated, well thought out and well vetted.

Second take away – the education for realtors is not sufficient at this time, so more discussion about what that looks like moving forward needs to happen at all levels.

REIBC made a donation to Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland on their behalf.

Thank you to the Real Estate Foundation of BC for their support.
