Meet A Member

Meet Neil Currie, RI

Neil_Currie.JPGI began my career in Real Estate in 2003 with BC Assessment as a Property Information Collector in Nelson and later worked as a residential appraiser in Nelson and Cranbrook.  In 2008 I accepted an appraiser position with Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency. In addition, in 2009 I completed the Diploma in Urban Land Economics by distance education and received my RI designation after that. In 2010 I applied for my BC Real Estate Licence and joined the RE/MAX RHC Realty team in Nelson, BC. However, a second opportunity came up with Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency that allowed me to receive my Professional Agrologist (Pag) designation and as a result I was able to be involved in the assessment of all property types. (agricultural, residential and non-residential properties). In 2014 I accepted a position as an Assessor with the City of Medicine Hat, Alberta and later that year became an Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA). I currently do residential assessments along with the assessments for the City’s Business Revitalization Zone.

Throughout this I have proudly retained and displayed my RI designation from REIBC.

I enjoy working as an assessor for the City of Medicine Hat because it involves working in both the Assessment and Taxation processes. The challenge is explaining the processes in the appropriate terminology for a variety of people and the reward is when individuals respond favorably to my explanation that is tailored to their apparent knowledge level.

I spend my time outside of work cycling, walking and weight training on a regular basis. As often as possible I try to get back to Nelson to do some mountain biking, motorcycling, ATVing and visiting my kids and grandchildren.

Meet Joyce Chong, RI

Joyce_Chong.jpgAfter receiving my MBA from the University of British Columbia, I joined Vancity Savings Credit Union in 1995. The opportunity provided me a platform to learn the business of finance in a multi-faced role that included management and expansion of financial services network, mergers and acquisitions, financial and operational infrastructures, and asset management.

In my current role as Director of Administration and Real Estate Services at Simon Fraser University, I oversee and provide strategic leadership in customer service, operations and financial management of the Facilities Services Department. Central to my role, I oversee real estate services for the university,  which includes asset management, real estate transaction structuring and negotiations, space acquisition, third party real estate development, project management, contract administration, leasing, property and facilities management. I also oversee re-sales for the award winning UniverCity properties on campus as well as antenna license management.

I’m passionate about change and empowering people.   Seeing people grow and do creative and amazing things gives me the motivation to get up in the morning and do my best.

I’m blessed to have a wonderful loving husband and two beautiful girls quickly growing into adults. We love traveling and experiencing the different foods and cultures from the different parts of the world.  Like an old soul, I like having hard copy prints of these happy moments throughout our home.  When not working, I keep myself sane with lots of hot yoga with my girls and “vespaing” around town with my husband.
