The REIBC recently got an opportunity to touch base with the executive of the 2014-2015 BCIT Real Estate Association and they agreed to let us all know what they are up to now that they've entered the work-world.  We are sharing their stories!

Carey Buntain, former Vice-President of Operations for the BCIT Real Estate Association, graduated from BCIT in June 2015. Carey started as the Investment Sales Coordinator for Avison Young in Vancouver after his graduation. His position involves the research and analysis of a variety of CRE asset classes, including the office, retail, industrial and multi-family markets, for the Vancouver office's investment sales division. Carey is learning important practical considerations about the Metro Vancouver market that will further his development towards becoming a broker. REIBC provided him with the opportunity to enhance and expand his relationships through its various industry events. These events provided him with valuable insights and assisted in his decision to pursue a career in the commercial real estate industry.

Board Report

The first meeting of the new 2015/16 board was held by conference call on August 27, 2015.

There were three items that required a decision:

1. The job/career postings that are posted on the website will be accessible by members only. Wording on the website will explain that to anyone posting.
2. A draft letter of understanding between REIBC and AIC-BC was presented and approved.  The purpose of this LOU is :

• Recognizing the professional status of their respective members;
  
  
• Recognizing the educational achievements of real estate professionals in both organizations, and furthering the educational standards of the real estate profession;
• Promoting co-operation and open communication between the organizations.

A joint conference will be held in the spring of 2016 and every other year after that.

      3.  Dan Wilson was appointed as a Governor from the Vancouver Island District.

Unusual Changes at the City of Vancouver

This past July, Vancouvers General Manager of Planning Brian Jackson announced his retirement after what he called "three tumultous years ... during which the city has seen almost non-stop controversy over new developments and new neighbourhood plans that include densification". 

Brian Jackson spoke at a packed development industry lunch in mid-September giving those in attendance some insight into what he believes are some major issues plaguing the city. This was reported on in the the September 17th edition of the Globe and Mail.
