As reported by the first batch of 2021 Census data, Canada and BC experienced relatively robust population growth over the past 5 years. Four of the five fastest-growing Metro regions in the country were located in British Columbia. Within Metro Vancouver, the City of Surrey accounted for more than a quarter of the region’s growth. These changes to BC’s population numbers will reflect and influence changes in our housing markets, with faster population growth associated with faster dwelling stock expansion, and vice versa.
