Job Description / Duties
The City of Coquitlam currently has an opportunity for an experienced candidate to join our team and become a key member of the City Lands & Real Estate Division. Reporting to the Manager Real Estate, the Senior Real Estate Specialist is responsible for managing a variety of real estate duties to support the Lands Division, including leading negotiations on matters such as the acquisition of lands for strategic and civic purposes, the disposition of surplus land, as well as negotiating road closures agreements, statutory right of ways, and bonus density agreements arising from rezonings. This is an exciting role to take on with the City of Coquitlam, a municipality known for its large developable land portfolio, progressive market-oriented engagement and nimble decision making.
You have proven experience preparing and managing complex real estate deals. You possess strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, a solid understanding of, and expertise in, land valuation methods and evaluating development proformas. Additionally, the successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to make public presentations, prepare reports to Council and lead land procurement processes within the limits of the Community Charter and Local Government Act. You have experience in collaborating and providing strategic direction to lawyers. In this role you will also liaise frequently with various internal and external stakeholders on a range of contracts and agreements in respect to City owned real property.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Our ideal candidate will hold an Undergraduate degree or post-secondary diploma in real estate, urban land economics, commerce, business, finance, or related field, supplemented with a formal education focusing on urban land economics and certification with the Appraisal Institute of Canada or equivalent. An equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in managing real estate transactions. Experience in municipal real estate will be considered an asset. A valid BC Driver’s License is required.
