The REIBC is visiting Duncan, B.C. on Thursday October 2nd, 2014 at the Travelodge Hotel and Conference at 140 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan, B.C.

 This will be an excellent opportunity to gain insight on growth, economy, and development in Duncan and the surrounding areas while mingling with your peers. Breakfast and lunch will be included.

Duncan Mayor Phil Kent:

Mayor_Phil_Kent.jpgMayor Phil Kent of Duncan was first elected to Duncan Council in 1999, and has been the City's Mayor since 2005. Mayor Kent has served as Vice Chair of the Cowichan Valley Region District Board and Chair of Region Services. 

Phil has a long history of community involvement and currently serves as Chair of the Island Coastal Economic Development Trust, the CVRD Economic Development Commission, is a director of the Island Corridor Foundation and the Chair of Cowichan Success by Six Council of Partners.

Mayor Kent has been self-employed in business for over three decades, and holds certificates in Business Management, Strategic Planning from Royal Roads University and Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University. 
 

Michelle Geneau, Planner of City of Duncan:

Michelle GeneauMichelle has been the Planner for the City of Duncan for close to three years. In addition to handling development approvals for the City, she has led or co-managed projects including the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (2012), Duncan Area Active Transportation Plan (2014), University Village Local Area Plan (2014), Trans Canada Highway Corridor Management Plan (2014), and implementation of the Urban Forest Strategy. She is a staff liaison for the City’s Environment Committee, and is involved in policy development on issues such as affordable housing, air quality, watershed management, traffic safety, public art and seniors issues. Michelle grew up on Vancouver Island and studied at Vancouver Island University and Dalhousie University.  

 

Scott Mack, Director of Development Services for the Municipality of North Cowichan

Scott MackScott Mack is a registered professional urban planner and senior municipal manager and has worked as the Director of Development Services for the Municipality of North Cowichan for the past 4 years.  Scott holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Planning from the University of Northern British Columbia, as well as a post-professional Master’s Degree in Architecture from McGill University.  Although born and raised in Nanaimo, Scott spent the first 10 years of his career primarily in Alberta, before returning home to Vancouver Island 6 years ago, and enjoys living on the coast once again with his wife and 2 young children.  Scott has worked primarily in municipal government, though he has also spent some time working in the private sector both in consulting as well as in land development and therefore has a keen ability to see and understand development issues and challenges through multiple lenses.
