SUMMARY:Webinar - Coastal Stewardship for Homeowners: How to protect Shor
eline Properties and support Salmon and Nature.
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Stewardship for Homeowners: How to protect Shoreline
Properties and support Salmon and Nature.\n\nThe shorelines of the Pacif
ic coast are desirable places to live - they offer stunning views, acces
s to nature and recreation, and provide vibrant habitats for species lik
e Pacific salmon and forage fish. Unfortunately, with development along
the coast, coastal modification structures like seawalls are increasing
ly impacting these important species. Although coastal modification stru
ctures are put up to protect shoreline properties and infrastructure, th
ey can actually exacerbate erosion, degrade, and fail over time leaving
the properties they were put in place to protect. \n\nBy using natural
substrates and native plants around their property, homeowners can incre
ase resilience to climate impacts by working with nature. These strategi
es are typically cheaper to build and maintain and are always more beaut
iful than traditional seawalls and riprap structures. Nature-based shore
lines also create habitat for fish and wildlife, filter out pollutants f
rom runoff before they reach the aquatic environment, and help to store
carbon that would otherwise contribute to global warming. Join the Resil
ient Coasts for Salmon team on June 19th to learn about how we could pro
mote healthy shorelines that protect our homes. \n\n-------------------
