SUMMARY:Introduction to Indigenous Relations in British Columbia - 4 Week
  Training Program
DESCRIPTION:This is a 4-week training program that will help you understa
 nd why the context of Indigenous issues and relations is critical to inv
 esting and living in British Columbia.  This webinar series is about pr
 oviding that background in a plain, straight-forward way.  This series 
 of sessions will be based on workshops that Peter Walters has led for go
 vernment agencies, non-profit groups and the private sector.  This is a
 bout understanding how we got here and how to move forward. \n\nThe for
 mat will be based around an eight-episode podcast series.  Each of the 
 four one-hour webinars will cover 2 podcast topics.  The podcast will b
 e introduced and then we will play it and then answer any questions that
  the participants may have.\n\nWe will have 4 sessions to complete this 
 training and a certificate will be issued upon completion of all 4 sessi
 ons.   \n\nWe will cover the following topics:\n\nWebinar 1 – “How
  We Got Here” & “Names Have Power”\nWebinar 2 – “Consultation 
 and Court Decisions” & “Veto, Aboriginal Rights and Aboriginal Title
 ”\nWebinar 3 – “UNDRIP and the Calls to Action” & “BC Treaty P
 rocess and Other Agreements”\nWebinar 4 – “Politics and Power” &
  “Personal Reflections”\n\nSessions will take place at Noon – 1:00

 ----\n\nBIO – Peter Walters\n\nAfter nearly 35 years in the BC Public 
 Service, many of them as an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Indigenous 
 relations, natural resource and tourism ministries, Peter has focused on
  helping Indigenous communities, provincial agencies and the private sec
 tor work better together.\n\nHe currently:\n\n* leads workshops and prod
 uces podcasts on Indigenous relations, government structure, and "how to
  brief",\n\n* provides Indigenous relations guidance to businesses,\n\n*
  helps Indigenous organizations navigate the provincial government,\n\n*
  facilitates meetings and strategic planning sessions, and\n\n* takes on
  writing and research projects for NGOs, the private sector and governme
 nt.\n\nHe has been an REIBC member since 1989.\n\nREIBC thanks the Real
