DESCRIPTION:Webinar - Exploring the various alternatives that can be and 
 are utilized by First Nation governments within BC.\n\nAdditions to rese
 rves is a process used by the Canadian government, to formally add land 
 to various First Nations across Canada. Unbelievably the Indian Act is s
 ilent on this issue, and as such another mechanism was needed and this l
 ed to the creation of the Additions to Reserve Policy in 1972. The polic
 y has been updated three times since then; 1991, 2001, and 2016. The cha
 nges and updates were required given the various challenges identified w
 ith the process and wording in the policy. Today the policy is located i
 n Chapter 10 of the Lands Management Manual, a manual created by the Can
 adian government to help administer First Nation land\n\n---------------

  Associates Planning Services, is a Fellow with the Canadian Institute o
 f Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Pam has a PhD
  in Urban Geography and BA and MA degrees that have supported her almost
  40-year career as a community planner in Alberta and BC.  For the last
  20 years, the majority of her work has been for First Nation communitie
 s on Vancouver Island with a focus on research, community planning, and 
 economic development.  Pam has been involved in several ATR processes, 
 both under the previous system and the new system.  She teaches at Vanc
 ouver Island University in the Master of Community Planning Program as w
 ell as the Professional Indigenous Lands Management Certificate Program.
