Member News

President Andre Gravelle took some time in January and headed to Whistler and did some dog sledding!  He said it was very interesting and was glad he had done it.  This is a great picture of him and the sled!

This is an email we received from Make-A-Wish and we are pleased to share it with you.

To the dedicated members of the REIBC GT Organizing Committee,

I hope this message finds you all well.

I wanted to share with you all a little something from Liam’s Wish to visit Legoland.  This is the first of the wishes you have adopted from this year’s golf tournament.  Liam lives in Penticton, and has a brain tumor.  His family cannot say enough great things about his wish!  His absolute highlight, was meeting a LEGO Master, and having himself sculpted out of LEGO.  He was then put into a scene of New York, where he will remain forever!

Please feel free to forward the following attachment on to any of your supporters.

Once again, we can’t thank you enough for your hard work, commitment, and dedication.  We get to say yes to wishes like these because of you, and for that we will always be grateful.

Here’s wishing you all a wonderful holiday season, and a happy, healthy 2013.

Best Wishes,

Simon

Award of Excellence

The membership of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia includes many individuals who provide outstanding service to the Institute, to the real estate industry generally, and to their own communities.  The Institute recognizes select professional members who have achieved service excellence in each of these areas by awarding them with the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia's Award of Excellence.  The Award of Excellence is a formal recognition of members who have distinguished themselves over their careers and have contributed significantly to the advancement of the Institute, to the broader real estate industry and to their individual communities.

Research

Each year the Real Estate Foundation sets aside a portion of their budget for industry funding.  REIBC is included in that industry funding and we have put in two proposals for funding for the upcoming year.  One of the proposals is for Innovation in Modular Housing Design and Construction in cooperation with BC Housing and the other is Increasing Affordable Market Housing in High Growth Urban and Rural Resource Based Communities in BC in cooperation with the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.  We are very excited to be partnering with BC Housing and the Ministry to work towards research that will be beneficial to our members, the communities in which they live and the public.   We will keep you posted as to whether these pieces are moving forward.

Two other pieces of research that we embarked on last year are now almost complete.  One is in cooperation with BC Housing and a study was done on Scoping a Registry of Accessible and Adaptable Homes in British Columbia.  That piece is near completion and the findings will be posted shortly to the website.

The other piece of research was in cooperation with Social Purpose Real Estate.  This piece was understanding real estate challenges and opportunities affecting the not-for-profit and social purpose sector.   This research is weeks away from being complete and many folks are looking for the results.  CitySpaces was contracted with REIBC to carry out the research and once the report is received, we are hoping to have CitySpaces present on their findings.  We will keep you posted as we move forward.  Once again, the findings will be posted on our site, so watch your inboxes for the announcement.

Advertising & Sponsorship

Over the years we have asked many questions regarding advertising in the INPUT and how our members feel about that.  The response is a glowing “if we don’t have to, please don’t”.  We have a few advertisers now (8 in total I believe) and we are trying to move towards sponsorship for the magazine rather than advertising.  We pride ourselves on putting out a magazine that is easy to read, informative and not full of advertisers.  So we are making a few changes with our advertising and sponsorship.

We are looking for sponsors for the INPUT magazine.  You can see in the Winter 2013 Edition on Heritage  how we have showcased our sponsors.  Our website reflects the changes as well.  Of course the perfect scenario would be to have one sponsor for the entire magazine.  Maggie is doing a great job getting our sponsors.  Also in the latest edition of INPUT you will see the directory pages which is new to us as well.  This is a great way to highlight your business in an inexpensive yet workable way.  We thank all of you for your support.

You will also note that we have advertising in this edition of the newsletter.  If you have any questions regarding the sponsorships or advertising, please feel free to contact Maggie at marketing@reibc.org.
