Board of Governors Report

Your Board of Governors held a regular phone conference meeting on February 23rd and the following is a brief synopsis of our discussions to keep our membership apprised of issues we are dealing with on your behalf:

  1. In 2012 we are pleased to be sponsoring the Real Estate Foundation in the amount of $1,500 towards travel costs for the Land Award judges.
  2. The Governors are unanimous in agreeing to a policy whereby we (the Governors) will pay our own registration fees at the Symposium held annually or any other joint conference with other Professional Associations such as BCAAIC.
  3. In our ongoing efforts to improve and shorten the application process for our new professional members, we have clarified that only one proposer is now required on the application; that person must be an "RI" and provide a letter of reference for the new member.  We have removed the need for a seconder thus streamlining the process for prospective members.
  4. BC Housing has provided six (6) pieces of research for us to consider as we plan to partner with them in the future.  We will seek support for this research  from the Real Estate Foundation.  All agreed we are moving in the right direction in our efforts to raise more awareness of the "RI" brand and our members.
  5. We had a brief review of our current financials which we scrutinize at most meetings to assure we are tracking our budget line items... .  everything looks good on this front.
  6. We were provided with a proposal to support a capital management integrated system and unanimously chose to politely decline, believing it was not anything that enhanced our membership at this time.
  7. Lastly we discussed the formal discipline of one of our professional members by the Real Estate Council.  Discussion was had as to whether we would pass this on to our Professional Conduct Committee for review and feedback.  We also discussed adding a member to that review committee who is knowledgeable in strata; we have done so and will discuss this again.

The meeting was 50 minutes long and went very smoothly.

Respectfully submitted;

Dave Graham, RI
Secretary/Treasurer

FRASER VALLEY CHAPTER LUNCHEON

On February 17, 2012 the Fraser Valley Chapter welcomed Her Worship, Dianne Watts, Mayor of Surrey as guest speaker at their luncheon.   During the Mayor's presentation one soon realized why Dianne Watts has become so popular and respected.  She has a unique blend of confidence, assertiveness and at the same time she is very humble.  Mayor Watts was a fabulous speaker and the event was a great success.
