Board Report
The October Board of Governor’s meeting was held via conference call. We started the meeting with a discussion about the interview form for new members. For those who have not gone through the process recently, a member of the Board interviews applicants to get to know them and their experience, and determine whether they would be a good addition to the REIBC family. We are looking at changing up the form, specifically to do a better job of determining how new members want to be involved with the Institute.
We also discussed the recent additions of RFPs that have been added to our website, and whether those were providing value to our members. Related to that was the topic of advertising on our website and in our newsletter. Advertising is a good way to generate revenue for the Institute, and also a good way for our members to let others know about their service. However, we also wish to maintain the tasteful and professional appearance of our public image. You will be pleased to know that flashing banner ads were promptly vetoed.
The Board practices continuous improvement in our governance, and we now have frameworks in place to clarify the roles between the Board and staff.
We tended to a trademark issue – Rotary International also uses the RI letters, but for different purposes. We are drafting a document which allows them to use those letters for their purposes so long as it doesn’t interfere with our use of the trademark.
As you all know, the venerable Brian Pink from the Langara Real Estate Department passed recently. They are establishing a scholarship in his name, and the Institute will be contributing to that fund.
That is the Board report for this session. We have the annual President’s Luncheon as well as the Vancouver Chapter Holiday Event coming up in December. I hope to see you there.
Mandy Hansen, RI President Elect
