BCIT Meet the Pro’s
BCIT’s REA(Real Estate Association) held its first networking event of the year on Oct 17th called “Meet the Pro’s” The evening provided students with a perfect opportunity to learn from, and ask questions to a group of residential industry professionals.
The REIBC brought in professionals from a variety of occupations – each personable and easy to talk to. Through the evening we all had many conversations with the professionals and received a lot of advice and guidance. From Andrea’s enthusiasm, to Troy’s humor, the students got to see the different types of people that will make the real estate industry an enjoyable one to work in.
All of the members of the BCIT REA are appreciative that the professionals took time out of their schedules to come to this event. With everything that was said, we really got a greater sense of clarity on what our futures might look like. We look forward to our next opportunity to see you all again!
A 2nd Meet the Pro’s event will be held in February, and will focus on Commercial Real Estate. Professionals, please keep your eyes open for your invite to participate in this 2nd event!

BOARD REPORT:
Hello once again. This past September the RIEBC board met in person. We started the session learning about proper board governance, and what our role as board members entails. We then moved into our annual strategic planning session, where we looked at the goals for the next year, and how we wanted to move forward for the coming year. There was broad ranging discussion on the impacts of demographics and the changes facing our industry. We related this back to our members and how we can serve the changing needs of our existing members and ensure that we are an attractive option for new members. I think we have created an achievable but challenging set of goals for ourselves for the upcoming year.
At our board meeting, there were several policy related issues that came forward. The board decided that to improve interaction with our committees, the Chairs or board representative would present twice a year on the activities of their committee. Governors will also report out to the board on their Chapters and their accomplishments.
We are pleased to report that a new board member has been appointed in the Vancouver Island District to fill a vacancy. Cheryl Wirsz will join the board until the end of the term in June 2015. A warm welcome to Cheryl!
Once the board meeting came to a close, the joint AIC/REIBC Valuing Diversity Conference kicked off at the River Rock in Richmond. It was an excellent event with a high caliber of speakers and a selection of interesting topics. For those members who attended, I hope you enjoyed yourselves.
