A new Board was recently elected at the AGM in June 2011. Our first meeting was held on August 25th and discussion on various initiatives included the following:

-Regular review of new members, monthly financial statements and the update on performance relative to the strategic plan targets

-Planning is underway for the March 2012 symposium and progress to date was reviewed

-The Board agreed to pursue research proposals to address the question of capital gains taxation on real estate investments

-With a new Board Executive, many of the Institute committees required new representation, and new Chairs were appointed to various committees for the coming year

-A review and minor change to the Terms of Reference for the Membership committee was approved

-The Board reviewed and approved several minor policy amendments regarding membership and governance

-Modifications to the membership application were discussed and it was agreed that notarization of applications will no longer be required

-The career postings available on the website were discussed with the view to a potential revenue stream, however, further information is required

-The Board has recently been reviewing the employment agreement with the executive officer and have come to an agreement

The Board welcomes your feedback and should you have any comments or questions please don’t hesitate to discuss them with your Governor.

Where Has Your RI Taken You?

This question was answered by one of our out of province RI's who benefited from REIBC and the RI designation from outside of British Columbia.

"When I started to take the Urban Land Economics Course from UBC as a Realtor in 1989 little did I know that it would lead to a management position with the Saskatchewan Assessment Managment Agency in 2005. Leading a team of appraisers, learning the Income Approach for the 2009 revaluation." - John Allan, RI

Thank you John for sharing with us your experience and reminding us the value and strength of the RI designation, not only in British Columbia but throughout Canada.

We would be happy to hear from other members of how the RI designation helped them advance their careers and take them to the next level. Please email George at marketing@reibc.org
    with your story.
