President Elect Mandy Hansen competed in her first Try a Tri event. She did the Try-a-tri at the Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon in Kelowna. It was comprised of a 300 meter swim, a 15 km bike ride, and a 3 km run. Her final time was 1:16:56. This is a full 30 minutes faster than her target time, and 20 minutes faster than her dry run two weeks before. Not bad for someone who not only couldn't swim four months ago, but was afraid of water and wouldn't get her head wet. Congratulations Mandy, that is a great accomplishment!

REIBC is collaborating with Social Purpose Real Estate (SPRE) to have this piece of research completed. CitySpaces Consulting Ltd. is the selected proponent and has started the task. CitySpaces Consulting Ltd. is a leading provider of community planning, development consulting, and consultation services in communities throughout Western Canada. The Real Estate Foundation of BC also funded a second piece of research that REIBC will be working with BC Housing on. This piece of research will be Scoping a Registry for Accessible and Adaptable Homes in BC (both rental and owned units). Through existing literature, webscans, and key informant interviews, this study would look at other examples of registries; both registries for accessible and adaptable housing in other jurisdictions, as well as other housing related registries that may offer relevant lessons learned). The purpose of this scoping exercise would be to determine the ideal features of such a registry, the methods for gathering and maintaining data, funding sources, and partners.
Climate Change
A link to a BC government Natural Gas and LNG strategies. Click here for link to government page. This is interesting in that natural gas is seen as a “climate solution” as a transitional fuel to a low carbon global economy (pg. 11). Click here for a link to a Globe and Mail article regarding natural gas being declared a clean energy source. This whole thing should be of interest due to the massive LNG plant developments being considered in northern BC. Somewhat older articles, but important nonetheless.
