REIBC Real Estate Scholarship Award
This month we received a letter from Philip Middleton, the recipient of REIBC's Langara real estate scholarship award. He expressed his gratitude towards the Institute for the financial support REIBC has given. Philip is looking forward to obtaining his management certificate and is hoping to continue his studies through enrollment in the Diploma of Land Economics program at UBC.
REIBC generously provides support to students entering the real estate industry and continues to do so.
REIBC 20th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Scott Ullrich, RI
Congratulations to Scott Ullrich, the newly elected Chair of the Real Estate Foundation of BC.
Scott Ullrich, RI, a representative of REIBC on the Real Estate Foundation Board was elected chair of the board on April 3, 2014.
Scott owns Gateway Property Management Corporation and is a Past President of the Real Estate Institute of BC (REIBC). He is also the Past President of the B.C. Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), a past director with the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, and an Instructor at the University of British Columbia.

Real Estate Foundation of BC's Newest Member of the Board of Governors
Jack Wong, Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia CEO, has announced the appointment of Anna Warwick Sears as the newest member of the Foundation's board of governors. Dr. Warwick Sears, Executive Director of the Okanagan Basin Water Board, was appointed to the Foundation on April 3, 2014 by B.C.'s Minister of Finance.
At the 2014 annual general meeting, Scott Ullrich was elected foundation chair and Gerry Martin was elected vice-chair. Their positions run until the 2015 AGM. Mr. Ullrich is president and CEO of Gateway Property Management Corporation. Mr. Martin is the Managing Broker of B.C. Farm & Ranch Realty Corp.
A board of five members directs the business of the Foundation. The British Columbia Real Estate Association, the Real Estate Council of British Columbia and the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia each appoint one member. The B.C. Minister of Finance appoints two members. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve up to two consecutive terms.
The foundation's current board includes:
- Scott Ullrich of Surrey, chair – appointed by the Real Estate Institute of B.C.
- Gerry Martin of Abbotsford, vice-chair – appointed by the Real Estate Council of B.C.
- Kelly Lerigny of Chilliwack – appointed by the B.C. Real Estate Association
- Jim Rempel of Abbotsford – appointed by the B.C. Minister of Finance
- Anna Warwick Sears of Kelowna – appointed by the B.C. Minister of Finance

PROP 1043: Advanced Strata Management, May 15, 2014. This is an applied course for working strata managers. You will develop hands-on knowledge and skills for problem solving. You will also acquire a deeper understanding of how to handle everyday challenges pertaining to statutory compliance, annual general meetings, council meetings, mixed-use strata, budget preparation, financial reserves, building maintenance, insurance claims, and time management. The course is recognized for Re-licensing Education Program (REP) credit. Prerequisites: A current strata management licence or permission from the instructor. BOARD REPORT
Your Board met last on March 27 th in Vancouver.
We continue to support the BC Law Institute in their Strata Property Law Research project. This will be an invaluable resource to many of our members. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
A sub-set of the Board is moving forward with an RI marketing initiative. The goal is to promote the use of the RI designation within the Provincial Government. For example, real estate appraisal work is conducted throughout government and is referred to in both Policy and Legislation. We hope to have the use of the RI recognized as a professional designation for work in this, and other, areas to benefit our membership.
The Terms of Reference for all committees of the Board were reviewed. This occurs on a regular basis to ensure that the objectives are aligned with our Strategic Plan goals, and that committee members represent our diverse membership.
Based on the feedback from our members at the last RI Symposium, the 2015 Symposium will likely be a one day session in the lower mainland with some streaming of sessions if possible.
