REIBC News
Presidents Luncheon
The REIBC Presidents Luncheon was held on December 4th at the Four Seasons Hotel. REIBC President, Jason Grant welcomed guests at the door before they had the opportunity to mingle over hors’ devours as they awaited the start of the Luncheon program. The Emcee for the evening REIBC President- Elect Andrea Fletcher introduced several award of excellence recipients, chapter chairs, governors, past presidents, RI’s in positions of leadership and honorary members. This years’ event, we like to say, was star-studded and very exciting! Over 180 guests were registered for the event
This year we had 25 students attend the event, all sponsored by REIBC members! A first for the REIBC. The entire 2nd year class of the Marketing Management Program at BCIT attended with their program instructor Glenda Urbshadt. We also had 7 students from UBC register to join us. Thank you to those who helped make this possible: Co-Pilot Consulting, Morguard Investments, Omicron, Premise Properties, Robert Fawcett, Sutton Group-Seafair Realty and VWR Capital.
After enjoying a delicious lunch, REIBC Past President and Chair of the Real Estate Foundation Scott Ullrich introduced this year's speaker, Shayne Ramsay CEO of BC Housing. His presentation “Where Private and Public Overlap: Innovative Affordable Housing Partnerships in B.C.” discussed BC Housing’s partnership approach to social and affordable housing.
After the presentation we gave away two great door prizes. The first was two tickets to the Vancouver Canucks vs. Anaheim Ducks and a one-night stay at Le Soliel Hotel, which was won by Wesley Gentle, RI, of McDonalds Restaurants of Canada. The second prize was two tickets to the Vancouver Canucks vs. Dallas Stars and a one-night stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, won by BCIT student Sam Maliszewski.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and those who attended the event, we’re already looking forward to next year!
Vancouver Chapter Holiday Reception
On December 10, 2014, the Vancouver Chapter of REIBC kicked off the festive season with its annual Holiday Reception which saw over 100 guests enjoy an evening of mixing and mingling. Thanks to the generosity of the corporate event sponsors (BC Assessment, Campbell & Pound, and Altus Group) guests were treated to a fabulous evening of delicious food. RI members, Manny Riebling and Joyce Xing walked away with the two grand prizes of a 2 night stay at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet and a 2 night stay at Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos. A ‘fun fact’ pointed out at the event by Keith MacLean-Talbot (REIBC Vancouver Chapter Chair), was that among those in attendance, there was a combined total of 969 years of REIBC membership experience. These years of experience are a testament to the relevance and strength of the Real Estate Institute of BC and its membership. On behalf of all the REIBC Vancouver Chapter members, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season.

A Holiday greating from Make-a-Wish
Dear Friends of Make-A-Wish,
Season's Greetings!
2014 has truly been a remarkable year for Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon. We have raised the most revenue in our 31 year history, which was timely as we were asked to grant the most number of wishes ever. We launched our first ever National Signature Event- Rope for Hope, which saw some of us rappel 36 stories and raise considerable funds and awareness for our mission - over $800,000 in eight cities across Canada.
To grant one wish; to transport one child and their family facing a life threatening medical condition from a place of uncertainty and fear and carry them to a place of possibility and joy is a beautiful thing. To do this over 120 magical times in one year is remarkable and it is truly not possible without the constant dedication of our army of hope. As I look back through my calender for 2014, I am in awe at all that occured in the name of Make-A-Wish with all of your support - our inspiring and dedicated staff & voluneers; our loyal and tireless event organizers; our partners, our donors, and our businesses and community groups; those of you who trust us with your children's dreams and those of you who helps us with the business work of leading an expanding organization - you are all the power behind each wish.
We are being asked to grant more and more wishes every year and we will ask for your continued support in the coming year so that we can say 'yes' to all of these inspiring children.
As we plan for our future in 2015 and discuss growth concepts such as expansion and outreach, diversification, wish pipeliness and benchmarks the pure simplicity of granting one magical wish at a time, and providing the transformative gift of hope and joy each time still resonates and is still a beautiful thing.
On behalf of all of us at Make-A-Wish, but especially our wish kids, I thank you for your generosity and support in helping us share the magic of a wish. May the incredible joy on the faces of our wish kids, as thier wishes comes true this past year, be yours this holiday season.
We wish you all the very best in 2015 Ross Hetheringon, CEO, and Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon Team.

Housing Affordability in Metro Vancouver
An Insight West Poll showed that housing affordability was an important issue for almost half of Vancouver residents in the most recent municipal election; the highest level of concern reported in the entire region.
It was suggested that more than half the population in Vancouver suburbs can afford to buy either a new home, townhome, or condo, while the same can not be said for Vancouver proper.
In the Nov 21 edition of the Vancouver Sun some of the regions new and elected mayors were asked how they plan to tackle affordable housing in the next 4 years.
