REIBC & AIC-BC Thompson/Okanagan Chapter's Dinner & Speaker Presentation
The Okanagan Chapter's of the AIC-BC and REIBC had a joint event on December 5th at The Exchange Pub in Kelowna. It was a fantastic, well attended event where guest speaker James Moore spoke of long range planning with the city of Kelowna and their Imagine Kelowna campaign. Governor John Phillips,RI came from Prince George to join us; it's always a pleasure to have out of town RI’s join us for events! James Moore’s talk was very interesting and challenged us to think outside the box as technology continues to expand, communities continue to grow, and demographics are constantly changing. All of these attributes contribute to how our city will look in the next 25 years... such as: driver-less cars, senior housing and support, university expansions, a second bridge?... so much to consider. To learn more about the campaign and to contribute ideas to the future outlook of Kelowna go to: http://imagine.kelowna.ca/

Meet Zaki Jiwa, Student Member
After completing the Professional Real Estate Program at BCIT with Honors this past spring, I promptly transitioned into the real world by joining Marcon Developments as a Development Analyst. In my role I have the opportunity to work closely with the Directors of Acquisition and Development to provide research, analysis, and ideas to help push increasingly complex developments through the pipeline. I plan to grow my participation in this process as I obtain more knowledge and hands-on experience in managing both development as well as construction.
I was fortunate enough to receive full-funding for my education at BCIT through scholarships and awards and now at 20 years old I am the youngest graduate from my program at BCIT and also the youngest employee in my office. After this huge achievement I took this past summer off to visit 15 countries in Europe and South East Asia.
In my personal life I have two older siblings and am happy to have grown up and continue to live in Coquitlam. I try to get outdoors whenever I can and I hope that my career can help fund my personal addiction to cars!
Meet Valeria Lifanova, RI
I entered real estate studies from UBC without intending to be in the industry, however, prior to completing all of my exams and receiving my diploma I was hired as an appraiser for BC Assessment. I decided to give it a try and ultimately decided to stay in the industry. Today, however, I am no longer an appraiser. Instead, I decided to take a leap of faith and changed my pension paying, stable and secure job for the world of entrepreneurship in real estate trading services because of my life circumstances at the time.
This change has been an exciting transition as it provides me the opportunity to continue exploring other areas of real estate such as leasing, tax advice, development etc. I look forward to where the next chapter of my work takes me! For now, I enjoy helping people reach their realty goals. I also decided to try to serve a bigger purpose and got involved with REIBC as a Vice-Chair for the Vancouver Chapter.
I balance all of this with 2 young kids under my wing and my life is all about juggling everything efficiently and seamlessly. I love to stay active and part of my balancing includes activities such as swimming, hiking around Vancouver or cycling through Stanley Park. I love trying new things whether it is a new sport, new travel destination or a new cuisine. Next on my list is learning Parkour!
Meet Justin Stubbs, RI
As the AVP Real Estate for BC for Laurentian Bank, my current role is to grow and manage a team of real estate finance professionals with the objective of expanding Laurentian Bank's position in this market. We currently have a team of 6 in Vancouver which generated over $200 million in new business in 2016 (up from $60 million in 2013) and we intend to maintain that upward trend.
Mentoring new entrants to our industry to fulfill their potential and to create "value add" financing solutions is my primary goal and I am always on the lookout for candidates with quick and flexible minds and strong communication skills. Success will be measured by how many capable teams I can create over the balance of my career.
A "west coast boy", I enjoy the many outdoor activities available to us living in Vancouver. Hobbies include mountain biking, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and sailing among others!
