Sean McGinnis, RI
Sean McGinnis, RI from Nelson has published a book. Sean says it’s a “comical mystery”. It’s entitled Stark Nakid and it took him about 2 years to get it published. Below is a piece from the website and says it all. Congratulations Sean!

Sean McGinnis grew up in the libraries of the west coast, fed a steady diet of classic detective and comic mystery fiction. He remains a herbivore and an avid reader. Stark Nakid is his first novel. He works as a public servant by day and a manservant by night. When relieved of his duties he enjoys skiing, running, hockey, and tai chi. He shares an appreciation for the absurd with his two sons and he lives with his soulmate in Nelson, British Columbia.

REIBC Chapter Event: A Day of Recognition

On February 19th, the chapter event in the Kootenays was held in Nelson. Governor Dave Graham, members Michael Bancroft and Sean McGinnis attended and many laughs and good conversation happened. On Friday Lorraine Schmidt, was presented with her 20 year recognition in Cranbrook. Unfortunately, no picture was taken so we can’t see her smiling face.
Thanks everyone for participating in this great event. We will debrief as a group and see if we will do it once again.

“The Nanaimo Chapter members met for a luncheon to celebrate their REIBC anniversary. Majority of the members knew each other having worked together or having met at previous REIBC networking events. There was lots of good discussion, mostly regarding gluten free food and wheat free diets, but the conversation and laughs were shared by all. Members expressed their appreciation of being recognized by the Institute.” ~ Nancy Skeels, RI, Chair, Nanaimo Chapter

Feb. 19th, 2015 – Cactus Club Coquitlam. Thank you to all the recipients that came out. It was wonderful to have members out that we haven’t seen in several years and catch up and it is amazing to see how diverse our membership is. We were honored to be joined by Past President Mandy Hansen and Governor Susan Antoniali. We concluded our evening with the Certificate Presentation. Congratulations to all the Recipients. ~ Tina Lee, RI, Chair, North Fraser Chapter

Just a recap on the Recognition Event – we had 6 RI members attend including two recipients, Jon Wandler and Michael Bose. We met at a new brewery in Kamloops, the Red Collar Brewery, where we had various appetizers and everyone tried out different types of beer. It was a fun gathering with lots of conversation and laughter.
In addition, the lunch in Vernon went well! Five RI members in total, unfortunately our recipient was a no show.” ~ Cathy Colborne, RI, Chair, Thompson Okanagan
Thursday Feb 19th, a day of recognition. The event was held at the Elephant & Castle, a quick elevator ride away from the Institute’s head office. It started off slow, but by 5:30, all of the 25 people registered were present. By 6:00pm, everyone had a drink in their hand, a plate full of food, and engaged in some laughs with whoever was sitting next to them. 7:00, the Canucks win, but no one paid attention to the game, we only watched intensely for the last shootout. Finally, the moment, we were all there for… 7:15, time to recognize and awkwardly put some members in the spotlight. A short but well deserved moment for our members who have dedicated their time and effort to embody the values and principles of the Real Estate Institute. ~Mario Lee, RI, Director, Vancouver Chapter
UBC Meet the Pros
The UBC Real Estate Club would like to kindly thank the REIBC for dispensing their time, knowledge, and efforts into making “Meet the Pros” a success. Through implementing a speed networking event, students and professionals alike were given the opportunity to connect through conversation (and sushi!) to develop a deeper and more realistic understanding of the real estate industry. Attendees rotated networking circles throughout the evening, learning about the industry and exchanging contact info. The event included students from numerous faculties of all years - the industry of real estate holds no bounds. From development to finance, the panel of professionals were skilled in shedding their personal stories, insights, and even failures, which allowed the attendees to become exposed to a greater variety of experiences and perspectives. In this vein, the UBC Real Estate Club wishes for the best for all attendees and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. ~ Sandra Lin, First year Representative, UBC Real Estate Club
