Mandy Hansen appointed to Property Assessment Appeal Board (PAAB)

MandyH

Past President Mandy Hansen has been appointed to the PAAB with her term expiring on December 31, 2016. The Board receives appeals on assessments for all types of properties from single family dwellings to farms to major industry. Typical issues deal with:
1) Is the property assessed at actual (market) value?
2) Is the property correctly classified?
3) Does the property qualify for a tax exemption?

Board members are appointed by the Provincial Government and are independent from BC Assessment (who created the assessment), the Property Assessment Review Panels (the first level of appeal) and the Government.

Congratulations Mandy!

Make-A-Wish Foundation BC & Yukon Team

Dear Friends of Make-A-Wish,

Happy New Year!

We grant wishes because wishes change lives.

Here is our latest Circle of Joy  wish story with our heartfelt gratitude for helping us share the magic of a wish with so many inspiring kids throughout our province. It is our hope that you will share it with your groups, teams, employees & friends.

As well, I have attached our Year in Review – By the Numbers as 2014 was a banner year for our chapter.

We granted 119 magical wishes in 2014 –the most of any chapter in Canada  and we are aiming to grant more than this in 2015 -  we truly could not do this without your support.

Some of the many wishes we are currently working on are – I wish to have a my own gaming room; I wish to visit the Lego Factory in Denmark; I wish to be a trainer at the San Diego Zoo and I wish to drop the puck at a Canucks game.

From all of us at Make-A-Wish, but especially from our wish kids,  our best wishes and thank you for helping us share the power of a wish.

Ross and the Make-A-Wish BC&YK Team

A new Vancouver developer bought 232 acres in Anmore and Port Moody from Imperial Oil

In an article dated January 16, 2015 by Frank O’Brien on Business in Vancouver, a site that has been put to market by Imperial Oil 2 years ago has now been sold to a new developer named, Brilliant Circle Group or BBG. The transaction of the 232 acres including historic dilapidated Ioco townsite in Port Moody and a section of raw land in Anmore came as a surprise to Anmore’s council. According to Anmore Councillor and Port Moody realtor, Ryan Froese the council of Anmore has not been consulted with the transaction which has brought concerns about its 17 existing buildings falling into disrepair.  BBG will work closely with environmental groups, city councils and other stakeholders on development and zoning. Furthermore BBG representative and lead architect James Cheng predetermined that the idea is most likely to develop residential and potentially urban village.  To read more please follow the link http://www.biv.com/article/2015/1/imperial-oil-sells-232-acres-anmore-novice-develop/.
