Take Me Out to the Ball Game
On July 11, REIBC members and several sponsors of the Institute enjoyed a fun night of baseball at Nat Bailey Stadium as they watched the Vancouver Canadians play the Everett Aqua Sox. Approximately 45 guests enjoyed a BBQ dinner by first base with many of them moving up to the stands to enjoy the rest of the game! It was an exciting game as the Vancouver Canadians took two amazing home runs and ended up winning the game with a score of 6-2. It was a sold out baseball game, and it was well worth it!!
Thank you to all of those who attended!

Strata Property Law Project
Phase Two of the Strata Property Law Project builds on the results of Phase One’s consultation and research by examining the options for reform in selected areas of strata-property law. These areas are: (1) fundamental changes to a strata—with a priority focus on cancellation of a strata plan and dissolution of a strata corporation; (2) complex stratas; (3) leasehold stratas; (4) common property; (5) governance; (6) insurance; and (7) land-title issues. The goal of the project is to make recommendations for reform, illustrated by draft legislation, to help in the development of the next generation of strata-property law in British Columbia.
The full consultation paper, a summary consultation, a response booklet, and a backgrounder are all available below. Online surveys have also been set up, please follow link to:

The Strata Property Law—Phase Two Project has been made possible by project funding from the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia, the Notary Foundation of British Columbia, the Ministry of Natural Gas Development and Responsible for Housing for British Columbia, Strata Property Agents of British Columbia, the Real Estate Council of British Columbia, the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia, the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors, and the Vancouver Island Strata Owners Association.
Invasive Species Toolkit
“Severe invasive species infestations can depress property values, affect human health and safety and have serious economic and environmental impacts. European fire ants are capable of forming very high nest densities in urban areas resulting in stings to people who tread on nests, loss of use of green space both in private yards and public parks and grounds and in more rural areas, have the potential to impact agricultural crops. Knotweed is creating challenges for many communities and home owners due to its aggressive ability to grow through concrete resulting in severe infrastructure damage and financial implications. In other parts of the world, knotweed species is now included in disclosure statements during property transactions due to its financial implications, including refused mortgages of infested properties. The issues and impacts resulting from invasive species affect everyone.
Developed by the Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC) and a special advisory team, the Invasive Species Toolkit for Local Government: Information for Local Government, Developers and Real Estate Professionals provides a foundation for professionals to refer to when making land use decisions that may be impacted by invasive species. This Toolkit will serve as a key and important resource for land use managers and real estate professionals.
Watch for the Invasive Species Toolkit for Local Government to be released online at www.bcinvasives.ca later this month! For more information, please contact the ISCBC at info@bcinvasives.ca or 250-305-1003.”
