John D'Eathe, RI

John_D_Eathe_award_.jpgLong-time member John D'Eathe, who celebrated his 45 year anniversary with the Institute this year, was recently granted the honour of receiving the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers.

The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields.

As an official Canadian honour, the Medal for Volunteers incorporates and replaces the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award. The Medal builds on the legacy and spirit of the Caring Canadian Award by honoring the dedication and commitment of volunteers.

Congratulations John!

André Gravelle, RI & John Bridal, RI

REIBC PaAndre_Gravelle_and_John_Bridal_honorary_AACI.jpgst-President André Gravelle, RI (left) and John Bridal, RI (right) both received an honourary AACI designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada.

AIC President Rick Colburne, AACI, P.App,(center) presented them with this honour at the Appraisal Institute of Canada International Valuation Conference which was held in Ottawa, Ontario on June 10th.

André began working with AIC in the 1990s as the old AIC education program started to lose momentum. At that time, UBC and AIC decided to collaborate and develop a new AIC Program of Study. In 2002, when UBC became the sole provider of AIC English Education, André took on the responsibilities of the day-to-day business of the Real Estate division. André continues to show immense dedication to the AIC Program of Study, and plays a vital role in the Admissions and Accreditations Committee.

John has played a key role in the AIC education program since the 1990s, and has been integral in the success of the UBC/AIC collaboration. Since UBC became the sole provider of AIC English Education, John has been responsible for the development and delivery of the courses, and he works with AIC members who are employed as tutors, professors and content providers. John is a vital member of the Admissions and Accreditation Committee, and plays an active role in lending his expert advice and experience.

Congratulations, André & John!

Meet Corey Cook, RI

Cook_Corey_12681_Photo.jpgIn 2012, when working towards a Bachelors Degree in Business, Corey had an opportunity to sample real estate with a temporary position at BC Assessment. This introduction into the real estate industry helped him quickly establish a passion. The importance and significance of appraising tangible, yet complex investments inspired him to pursue a career in the real estate industry. He would go on to complete his bachelor’s degree, and acquire a position as an Appraiser with BC Assessment. Since then, he has completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation with UBC Sauder - School of Business and obtained his RI Designation.

Corey is currently building his knowledge base and portfolio, with experiences in areas such as, urban residential valuations, First Nations, and residential development land. He looks forward to what future challenges and opportunities await him.

In his spare time, Corey likes to dabble in various sports: hockey, soccer, sailing, anything really. He also loves the outdoors, where he can travel the world, and experience new foods and cultures.

REIBC Charity Golf Tournament

On Wednesday June 21st the REIBC hosted the 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon. The weather was perfect, and all of those who attended had a wonderful time. Our hope is that we raised a lot of money! Stay tuned, we will let you know how much we raised as soon as we can!

We will update you on all the winners and share some pictures in our July e-newsletter!

Every month we receive updates from Make-A-Wish as they share wishes that have been granted as a result of many charitable donations, including dollars from REIBCs Charity Golf Tournament.

Erika is a 15 year old girl with Germ Cell Tumor. Her wish was to travel and take pictures. After taking some time thinking about where she wanted to go, she chose Hawaii.  Read Erika's wish here
