Webinars

Indigenous Engagement: Lunch and Learn – June 8, 2023

On June 8, 2023, Maynard Harry, from Indigenous Insight led an Indigenous Engagement Webinar Training to deliver cultural awareness and education on indigenous ways. Maynard, discussed the colonial impacts on First Nations communities, the history of the Indian Act, the Indian Residential Schools and Reserve System.

Maynard, discussed the First Nations perspective on real estate, underscored by the notion that the land belongs to the communities. He emphasized that capitalism doesn’t exist on reserve land, the land is developed and cultivated for the greater good of its people. Going forward, indigenous communities would greatly benefit from resources channelled to the entrepreneurial ventures of indigenous small business owners.

Maynard, encourages each person to begin with the truth, followed by reconciliation. He believes it is the act of acknowledging the past and its impact, through listening and communicating as steps towards reconciliation.
