2014 REIBC Annual Charity Golf Tournament - Kipp Rudd, ThyssenKrupp Elevator
On June 25, 2014 REIBC held its 21st Annual Charity Golf Tournament raising funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon. A 50/50 draw was held that night and this year’s winner was Kipp Rudd of ThyssenKrupp Elevator. Kipp donated his winnings back to Make-A-Wish.
Kipp has golfed in the tournament for the past five years with the Thyssen Group Elevator team after hearing about the tournament through Bruce Tanner from Bentall Kennedy. ThyssenKrupp Elevator has participated as a Platinum Sponsor. Kipp says that Make-A-Wish is a such a great cause as it helps out kids and their families and when we bring them back to speak at the tournament it is unbelievable!
Thank you for your support Kipp and we look forward to seeing you on June 24, 2015 for the 22nd Annual REIBC Charity Golf Tournament.

"Dear Friends of Make-A-Wish,
We hope that you had a great summer! Here is our latest Circle of Joy wish story with our heartfelt gratitude for helping us share the magic of a wish with so many inspiring kids throughout our province. It is our hope that you will share it with your groups, teams, employees & friends.
We are on target to grant over 120 magical wishes this year – which will be the most of any chapter in Canada and we could not do this without your support.
Some of the many wishes we are currently working on are –I wish to have a baby grand piano; I wish to host my soccer team in a suite at the Whitecaps game; I wish to visit the Lego Factory in Denmark and I wish to meet Lady Gaga.
From all of us at Make-A-Wish, but especially from our wish kids, our best wishes and thank you for helping us share the power of a wish.

Langara College
On Wednesday, September 10, 2014 four RI’s attended the Careers in Real Estate event at Langara College. These RI’s spoke about their profession in about 10 minutes answering the following questions:
-
A brief description of your specialty
-
A routine workday and professional objectives
-
A typical entry-level position, salary rant, and qualifications
-
The best part of your career.
The RI’s speak with passion and joy about what they do. Each time we look for different RI’s so if you haven’t been asked, you may be in the future. You will speak to folks who are interested in real estate and want to learn more about a specific profession. The four professions that are asked to speak are: appraisal, property management, residential sales and commercial sales & leasing.
Thank you to Rick, Daniel, Andrea and Shirley for speaking on September 10th.

Construction of Residential Buildings are Booming in North
According to an article published on the Business in Vancouver website, on September 17, 2014, residential construction is growing more than the combined industrial, commercial and government projects. This is good news to our members with residential expertise.
The LNG projects seems to attract more investors in Northeast BC. The report said that in Kitimat industrial building permits for the first seven months of this year were down when compared with residential construction. The report also shows the rapid growth of residential construction permits in Metro Vancouver

Board Report
The new 2014/15 REIBC Board is off to a fresh start kicking it off with the first meeting of our new fiscal year. We welcome the following new Board Members: Greg Steves, Susan Antoniali, John Phillips and Rajan Sandhu. We also want to thank those members of the board who have just bid a fond farewell for your years of generous service to REIBC: Peter Bretherton, John Castles, and Brad Currie.
We confirmed the chair person for each of our 8 committees. The Chairperson remains the same as the prior year for: Application Review Committee, Audit Committee, Golf committee, Governance Committee, Nominating Committee, Standards & Practices Committee, as well as the Professional Conduct Committee. Troy Abromaitis is new Chair of the Member Services committee.
Task Force updates included our work with Provincial lawyers to change the expropriation regulation and remove Certified Appraiser language to RI. Also the Task force is looking for creative ways to promote our brand. This will be discussed further in the strategic planning session and terms of reference will be presented for the September Board meeting.
In discussion with some great potential speakers for President’s luncheon.
The upcoming March 26, 2015, REIBC Symposium, including trade show, will be a single day event designed to engage our members in timely interesting topics.
Wishing you massive success for rest of your year!
