Susan McGougan, RI

Newsletter_Images/Susan_McGougan.pngSusan McGougan, a successful real estate agent from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, had a passion for real estate since the early 80s. After managing a travel agency for almost 15 years, Susan realized she needed a career change and signed up for the Real Estate program with UBC in 1985. It took her until 1990 to pass the exam and start working at Miller Realty in Nanaimo. Despite being a single mother at the time, Susan enjoyed her work and joined her current brokerage in 1995, focusing on residential listings and sales in the Nanaimo to Parksville area. She takes pride in helping seniors, first-time buyers, and newcomers. Susan spent many years volunteering in organized real estate, serving as a past president of VIREB and past Chair of the former Real Estate Council of BC. She currently teaches the mandatory Ethics program for the BCFSA. Susan and her husband love to travel, and her successful long-term real estate career enables them to travel in style. With a great balance of work and family/travel time, Susan has no plans to retire and plans to continue working in the field. Her clients appreciate her expertise and focused attention, as do her associates.

Welcome Susan.

Reconciliation Training - 4 Session Training Program – April 19, 20, 26, 27

Newsletter_Images/shelley_joseph.JPGOn April 19, 2023, Shelley Joseph, from Ladders to Kindness Training began a four-part webinar series to help educate and discuss a significant topic of Reconciliation in Canada.

The webinar began with prompting each person to recognize their own biases with the opening question, "what does reconciliation mean to you personally?"  Followed by the fundamental value of interconnectedness, the idea that "we are all one."  Therefore, how you treat yourself affects those around you.  Shelley, delved deeper into the historic and systemic mistreatment of First Nations Peoples, particularly the children who were succumb to residential schools. Including, the intergenerational trauma that has impacted and now embedded into the very fabric of our First Nations communities.

It was Shelley’s father, Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, who was instrumental in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He suffered irreparable harm from residential schools and today continues to be a powerful advocate for the rights of First Nations communities.

Through this interactive four-part webinar, Shelley urged each person to be introspective for reconciliation to occur, as we are all called to come together as a way forward. Therefore, let's move forward with an open heart and mind, looking to a new way.  In the words of Shelley’s mother, “be fierce with love.”
