An Economic Update with BCREA's Brendon Ogmundson – July 20, 2023

Newsletter_Images/brendon_ogmundson_headshot.jpgOn July 20th, Brendon Ogmundson, Chief Economist from BCREA, discussed several key topics related to the current state of the economy. One of the main points he emphasized was the importance of tracking GDP growth, by drawing valuable insights into the overall trends and forecasting future economic conditions. Brendon highlighted the impact of the pandemic on the real estate market, the current lack of labor force and the high demand for supply. As a result of the pandemic, many construction projects were delayed or put on hold, leading to a shortage of available properties. This scarcity, coupled with the increased demand from buyers, has contributed to rising housing prices in many areas. Brendon emphasized that maintaining low and stable inflation is crucial for sustainable economic growth and preventing detrimental effects, such as hyperinflation or deflation. Overall, the webinar provided valuable insights into the current economic landscape, the impact of the pandemic on the real estate market, and strategies for maintaining economic stability.
