Meet a Member
Whether you have years of experience or are new to the industry, REIBC is your key to career advancement and connection with the real estate industry. Professional members have achieved the RI designation, which provide employers and clients with instant confirmation of advanced levels of education and experience.
This month we are pleased to introduce you to Ian and Amrinder.
Ian Ban, RI
Ian started his real estate career in 2017 when he joined BC Assessment. Previously he had worked in the automotive industry for 17 years. He currently assesses rural single-family properties on the Sunshine Coast. When Ian decided it was time to make a change in careers and put his economics degree to use, he chose the real estate sector. He really enjoys the analytical side of appraisal and assessments. Ian became an RI for the connections that can be established and to be able to tap all the experience of the members.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys sports and the outdoors. He plays soccer, ultimate Frisbee, softball and touch football (pre-pandemic). He also enjoys hiking and camping.
REIBC welcome you Ian.
Amrinder Chahal, RI
I started my real estate career with BC Assessment in 2014 as a Property Information Collector. At the time I was still completing my Bachelor of Science degree at SFU. I graduated from SFU in 2016 and shortly after I was given the opportunity to become an appraiser on the IC&I team. I am currently working for BC Assessment as an appraiser for the Lower Mainland IC&I team and predominantly work on property types such as commercial and development land. I have always been passionate about following the real estate market and working for BC Assessment has allowed me to further explore the industry. While working with BCA I have been fortunate to meet and work with some very talented and inspiring people.
I completed my DULE in the winter of 2021 and I am happy to become an RI and join the members of the Real Estate Institute of BC.
Welcome Amrinder.

REIBC Poll
As you know on February 17, 2021, we sent out a quick poll to see what was happening with our membership regarding work at home. The poll will close on March 3, 2021 so if you haven’t had the opportunity to answer it as of yet, please do so by then. It takes less than 2 minutes to complete. We will be sharing the information in upcoming Weekly Bulletins.
Referral Program
We have had our first person receive a night stay in a hotel. Ken Woodward, RI from the City of Surrey proposed Keith McKinnon, RI. Keith received his RI on February 19, 2021 and Ken was advised he was receiving a night stay from our approved list of hotels. Here is his response:
“This is a very nice surprise and a very welcomed one. I have been unable to go to my trailer in Washington State for a year now and a weekend away from the house sounds terrific. Definitely made my day/week.”
