Meet-A-Member
Whether you have years of experience or are new to the industry, REIBC is your key to career advancement and connection with the real estate industry. Professional members have achieved the RI Designation, which provides employers and clients with instant confirmation of advanced levels of education and experience.
In our newsletters we will be focusing on the new RI’s that are joining REIBC, sharing with you their experience, their communities, and their everyday lives. We welcome these new RI’s into our community.
Help us welcome two of our new RI's:
Harpinder Sandhu
Harpinder began his real estate career with the City of Surrey in the Civic Works and Planning Departments. As a planning technician, the exposure to various functions of municipal government provided me with a unique insight into the development process. Harpinder moved to the BC Assessment authority 11 year ago and is now an appraiser for the lower mainland. He works from both the Vancouver and Surrey offices. His role in the Industrial, commercial and investment division is to implement operational efficiencies along with appraisal business. Harpinder is keenly interested in real estate and his education background with a BA in Geography and Economics from SFU provides him his theoretical and research knowledge. He is also a director of Public Policy for AffordableBC; an affordable housing campaign focused on solving our housing crisis by leveraging public land value increases to build public infrastructure. He is also a Pension Board trustee for both the BC Public Service Pension Plan and BC Municipal Pension Plan. The two funds have over $88 billion of assets invests, included a sizeable investment in BC real estate. Harpinder believes the RI designation is valuable because it represents a diverse background of members. Unlike other designations solely designed for specific professions, the RI brings a vast range of professionals with varying skill-sets together. He notes “this unique characteristic is our greatest collective strength.”

Jessica Yee
Jessica joined the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division in 2016 as a senior legal course specialist. She is responsible for the legal course content and other legal matters for a variety of the Real Estate Division’s real estate licensing, diploma and professional development courses. She is passionate about the law and education and felt that combining her two interests at UBC would be the prefect fit. She joined REIBC and applied for the RI designation because she would like to expand her network of real estate professionals. She has really enjoyed meeting fellow members and recent events such as the annual golf tournament!

REIBC Real Talks with Richard Kurland.

August 29th we had immigration lawyer Richard Kurland speak at the Oceanic Plaza. This fascinating talk was about how 300,000 people residing in Hong Kong currently have Canadian citizenship and 200,000 more hold permanent resident cards. That is a half a million people that could potentially come back into Canada. Richard spoke on the legal aspect of the situation and how it could affect all areas of real estate. It was a riveting presentation filled with insight on the progressing situation in Hong Kong.
Thank you to all who attended, we look forward to hosting more of the REIBC Real Talks!
