Key Economic Trends Shaping the Vancouver Island and Coast Region

Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET) CEO Line Robert will provide an overview of some of the key economic trends shaping the Vancouver Island and Coast region. The presentation will provide a future-focused look at some of the region’s key economic diversification drivers, and the impacts on communities, business and resident attraction. The presentation will also feature some recent comparative statistic and sectoral data, as well as bench marking before and during the pandemic. Examples of innovation and diversification happening across various sectors, including tourism, agri-food, technology and the creative sector will be used to illustrate the driving forces at work and their impact on the societal and demographic shift occurring in the region.

As Chief Executive Officer of the Island Coastal Economic Trust, Line has spent the past decade working in collaboration with all levels of government, Indigenous communities, non-profits and other regional stakeholders to help diversify the Vancouver Island and Coast economy.  Through a unique, grassroots funding model, she has helped guide more than $53 million in community-based project investments, resulting in a more robust and innovative economic landscape and improved quality of life for residents.

A law graduate of the Université de Montréal, Line began her career as Crown Counsel in Montreal. For more than 30 years, she has worked in BC in executive leadership roles and as an entrepreneur, providing strategic advice and support to government, business and non-profits.

Line has had the privilege to live and work in both urban areas and small communities in BC’s Interior and Coast and currently enjoys the beauty, lifestyle and opportunities of Vancouver Island’s east coast.
