Professional members

The Professional membership applies to those who have achieved the RI designation. The designation is a symbol of excellence. It provides employers and clients with instant confirmation of advanced levels of education and experience.

In addition, a Professional membership at REIBC means an opportunity for professional advancement and recognition. Along with gaining access to invaluable resources, you will have opportunities to connect with, and learn from, fellow professionals.

Professional Membership Qualifications & Fees

To qualify as a Professional member you must have one of the following minimum educational credentials:

MBA will be handled on a case by case basis.

Applicants holding one of the following professional designations will also meet the acceptable standard:

  • CRA (with undergraduate degree) – (Appraisal Institute of Canada)
  • RPP – Registered Professional Planner
  • RLA (Member, BC Society of Landscape Architects)
  • MAIBC (Member, Architecture Institute of BC)
  • BCLS (British Columbia Land Surveyors)
  • MRICS (Member, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
  • FRICS (Fellow, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
  • AACI (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute)



In addition, you must also be employed full-time in the real estate profession for a minimum of three of the four years before the date of application.

Profession of Real Estate Policy

In recognition of professions that require a post-secondary degree or diploma and substantial work experience, applicants currently holding one of the following professional licenses shall meet the acceptable standard providing it can be demonstrated that a majority of their work is real estate related:

  • Lawyers
  • Notaries Public
  • Engineers

The above professions must do at least 51% of their work in real estate and require a minimum of three years related real estate experience.

If you don’t qualify through the above you may qualify for the Exemption Entrance.

To apply for Professional membership, click the apply now button below and complete the registration form and pay the application fee. Your application will be sent to you via e-mail once you register and pay the application fee of $100 plus GST. 

Your completed application is submitted to REIBC and reviewed. Having an RI propose you is a requirement of the application. If you do not know an RI please contact the office to discuss further.

If all requirements are met, you will then be interviewed by a member of the Board of Governors. That is the last step!

Membership Fees

  • Non-refundable application fee — $105 (includes GST)
  • Annual Professional membership fee — $650.00+GST. Once approved, your membership remains valid for one year.

 

Associate members

Our Associate membership is available to professionals in all walks of life. They are those who do not meet the qualifications for the Professional and Nominee memberships, but who are interested or associated with the real estate industry.

Associate members at REIBC receive professional access to learning materials, networking opportunities and aids them in advancing their careers.

An Associate member can expect to:

  • Network and meet the industry’s “movers and shakers”
  • Create business opportunities with the people you meet
  • Gain insight into many facets of this thriving industry

Associate Membership Qualifications & Fees

Associate members must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant is associated with and interested in the real estate industry.
  • The applicant does not meet the qualifications for Professional or Nominee membership.

Associate membership is granted at the discretion of the Board of Governors.

  • Annual Associate membership fee of $325.25 plus GST. Once approved, your membership remains valid for one year.

*Associate members are not entitled to use the RI designation, vote or hold office.

 

Nominee members

The Nominee membership helps connect with future employers and highly qualified industry professionals.

Moreover, a Nominee member is a real estate practitioner that does not have either the experience or the education requited to qualify for their RI. They can also be a student taking a course from our recognized courses list.

A Nominee membership offers:

  • Eligibility for scholarships and bursaries
  • Network resources, referral opportunities and broadened business opportunities
  • Notification of industry-wide events and job postings
  • INPUT magazine mailed to your home or office
  • Access to industry information and educational resources
  • Opportunities to get connected and expand your peer network

Nominee Membership Qualifications & Fees

A Nominee can also be a student taking recognized courses including but not limited to:

 

This membership is valid for a maximum of 5 years.

A Nominee Membership offers:

  • Eligibility for scholarships and bursaries
  • Network resources, referral opportunities and broaden business opportunities
  • Notification of industry-wide events and job postings
  • INPUT magazine mailed to your home or office
  • Access industry information and educational resources.
  • Access to “Members Only” website features
  • Get connected and expand your peer network
  • Support your career growth

Complete the online Nominee membership application form and pay your membership dues.

Nominee Fees:

  • Annual Nominee membership fee - $72.22 +GST effective April 1st through March 31st. The fee is $36.11 + GST from October 1st to March 31st.
  • For students belonging to a recognized Real Estate Club (UBC or BCIT Real Estate Club) the membership fee is $36.11 +GST. The fee is $18.06 +GST from October 1st – March 31st. Use code STUDENT50 at checkout to get your discounted Club rate.

Retired members

The Retired membership offers industry experience to our REIBC family, providing sage wisdom, history and context to ongoing institute initiatives.

A Retired member is an individual who once held our Professional member and:

  • Has retired from the profession of real estate, and
  • No longer receives remuneration from the profession of real estate*

*a retired member who resumes the Profession of Real Estate or resumes receiving remuneration from the Profession of Real Estate, must cease being a Retired member and, if eligible to do so, resume being a professional member.

Our Retired membership offers:

  • Use of the RI (Retired) designation
  • Educational seminars, workshops and chapter events
  • Notification of industry-wide event postings
  • INPUT magazine mailed to your home or office

To become a Retired member, send a letter or email to the REIBC office notifying us of your retirement and request retired membership status.

Retired Membership Fees:

  • Annual Retired membership fee - $86.50 +GST. Effective April 1 through March 31.
