Join us on Thursday, April 28th 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. to learn from the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, a First Nations organization dedicated to serving and supporting First Nations communities who want to re-establish control over their lands, natural resources, and environment through the historic government-to-government Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management. 

What you’ll learn

Participants will learn how to identify on-reserve land interests and the different land registry authorities that apply under the Indian Act, the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management and modern Treaty Agreements.

Patti Wight

Patti Wight is from the Squamish Nation and currently resides in the heart of Lheidli T'enneh traditional territory (Prince George, BC) where she has been working with the Resource Centre since 2012. Patti holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography with an environmental science focus from the University of Northern BC and also has a certificate in Indigenous Peoples Resource Management from the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to joining the Resource Centre, Patti was the Lheidli T'enneh Director of Lands & Natural Resources. Patti enjoys spending her free time in nature exploring and camping. She loves to travel and is always trying out new ways to prepare foods, teas and medicines. 

Denise Unger

Denise Unger is a member of Chi'yaqtel (Tzeachten) First Nation, located in Chilliwack, BC. In the Halq'emeylem language, (Chi'yaqtel) means the 'place of the fish weir'. The Chi'yaqtel people originate from the Ts'elxwéyeqw Tribe and is politically affiliated with Stó:ló Nation.

Before establishing her 20-year career working with the Stó:ló and other Indigenous people, Denise's background included commerce and banking. In 2000, Denise joined the Stó:ló Development Corporation and Stó:ló Community Futures, before becoming the General Manager of the Ts'elxwéyeqw Tribe. Denise has worked for the Resource Centre as a field technician, both on Vancouver Island and in her home territory since 2009 and has established long lasting friendships in every community she has had the pleasure of working with. 

Angie Derrickson (TBD)

Angie Derrickson is a proud member of Westbank First Nation, which is located in south central British Columbia, Canada. Her career started at Westbank, with roles in Administration, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Senior Lands Officer from 2000 to 2010, while completing her Professional Lands Management Certification at the University of Saskatchewan in 2009. She later contributed to the development and the delivery of Parts 1, 2, 3 of the BCAFN Governance Toolkit. In June 2013, Angie was delighted to join the RC team and has since completed JIBC Associate Certificate in Training & Facilitation. 

Angie has assisted with governance and implementation activities under the WFN Self-Government Agreement, including community working groups, treaty, land acquisition, land code, law development and land registry system. She currently sits on both the WFN Public Arts Committee and WFN Allotment Commission. She continues to develop her skills and has achieved an Associate Certificate in Training and Facilitation at the Justice Institute of British Columbia in 2018, and continues to support strategic approaches for Training, Mentorship and Professional Development for Land Management across Canada.
