Join us for a lunch hour webinar,  A Primer on Manufactured Home Communities in British Columbia, with guest speakers Al Kemp, A.G. Kemp & Associates Inc and Michael Drouillard, RI, Harper Grey, LLP 

The webinar provides an overview look at manufactured home communities and their major differences from other forms of housing, with an emphasis on the important role manufactured homes play in the provision of affordable housing in British Columbia. Al Kemp will provide an introduction to this form of home ownership and inform viewers about the essential characteristics of manufactured housing as compared to other forms of housing, the evolution of manufactured home community ownership in British Columbia, and challenges and opportunities for this form of home ownership in the future.  Michael Drouillard will inform viewers about the legal framework governing the ownership and operation of a manufactured home park, particularly how the relationship between a landlord and tenant is governed by the Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Act, and how the ownership of manufactured homes is registered in British Columbia.

Al Kemp, A.G. Kemp & Associates Inc.

Kemp & Associates Inc., Al Kemp was CEO of the Rental Owners and Managers Society of BC from 1997 to 2013, leading the building of that organization from a small association of primarily Victoria landlords to a BC wide organization of over 2400 owners and managers of rental properties, known for its high quality services and education.  Al was also a major contributor to the current Residential and Manufactured Home Park Tenancy Acts.  

In his current role since 2013, Al and his colleague, Carly Jellis, provide legal information, education, operational advice, and assistance to property management and ownership companies who are rental housing providers.  He is also Executive Director of the Manufactured Home Park Owners Alliance of BC, an organization of over 350 manufactured home community owners throughout BC.

Michael Drouillard,RI, Harper Grey LLP 

michael_drouillard.pngMichael is a lawyer with Harper Grey.  His clients range from the owner of a single rental unit to a publicly traded REIT.  His transactional practice is focused on the purchase, sale, leasing and financing of commercial real estate. His dispute resolution practice focuses upon real estate disputes involving the purchase, sale, or valuation of real property as well as residential and commercial tenancy litigation.

Michael has a significant and diverse background in real estate which augments the legal services he provides to his clients. He practiced as a real estate agent and owned a rental property management business for seven years prior to entering the practice of law. His academic background, obtained from the UBC Sauder School of Business, specialized in the study of practical applications of commercial property management and commercial real estate appraisal principles.
