Join Orville Lim, RI, as he shares the history of Vancouver Chinatown with a tour of the Sai Hor Kow Mock Benevolent Association Building located at 531 Carrall Street in the National Historic Site, Vancouver Chinatown. 

The building is the oldest of 13 Chinatown non-profit society heritage buildings, originally constructed for the Chinese Empire Reform Party in 1903. At its height, it housed a school and published a newspaper.

The Lim Sai Hor (Kow Mock) Association rented the space in 1926 later purchasing the building in 1945 to serve as headquarters for its members defined by the common surnames Lim or Lam.

Orville Lim, RI, was a long time proponent of conserving the history and integrity of this historic building and since 2003 was a key driver who struck and led a committee of volunteers to take the project on.  This conservation project demonstrated that extensive exterior restoration work is achievable and that the restoration of these Chinese Association Buildings are a key and necessary element in maintaining the core heritage character of Vancouver's Chinatown and in propelling this valuable heritage area towards urban renewal.

Orville will take you on a tour of this amazing project and share with you the history of Vancouver's historic Chinatown. The tour will wrap-up with a Dim Sum lunch.
