Sarah Petrescu is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Housing Policy Branch, Office of Housing and Construction Standards, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, working primarily on homelessness and encampments.

Melanie Hope

Melanie Hope is the Director of Policy and Research with the Office of Homelessness Coordination, Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.  In this role, she has worked on implementation of initiatives such as the BC Rent Bank, provincial homeless counts and the Homelessness Community Action Grants.  From 2007 – 2018, Melanie held various roles within the province’s Housing Policy Branch.  Prior to joining government, she worked in the non-profit housing sector.  Melanie holds a master’s degree in Studies in Policy and Practice from the University of Victoria.

Kirsten Baillie is a Development Manager with BC Housing.  As a Development Manager, Kirsten works closely with non-profit housing providers to deliver affordable housing projects in communities up and down Vancouver Island including the Gulf Islands.  Kirsten delivers a range of affordable housing options such as: housing for women fleeing violence, seniors housing, housing with support services and mix income housing.  Kirsten's passion for housing enables her to deliver housing that meets the needs of the local community.  Previously, Kirsten worked as a Planner with the City of Vancouver for over 10 years where she spearheaded the pilot affordable housing conference called Reset.  She also holds a Master's Degree in Planning from the University of Waterloo.

2019_Events/brian.jpgBrian Clifford - BC Non-Profit Housing Association.

Brian Clifford is a Policy Manager at BCNPHA, and has a background in affordable housing research and policy analysis. During his time at the Association, he has led major research initiatives such as An Affordable Housing Plan for BC, the Canadian Rental Housing Index, Phase 1a of Metro Vancouver’s Transit-Oriented Affordable Housing study, and Vancity’s Rent Race: the growing unaffordability of rent in Metro Vancouver. Before joining BCNPHA in 2014, he worked in various capacities with federal and municipal orders of government. He holds a master’s degree in Urban Studies from Simon Fraser University.

Born and raised in icy Banff, Alberta, one of Sandi-Jo’s first passions was competitive figure skating. It was this sport that brought Sandi-Jo to Victoria, where she worked and then toured with Walt Disney’s World on Ice in the early 80’s.

Sandi-Jo is the current Victoria Real Estate Board President and has been a Director at the Board for the past four years. Before she embarked on her career in real estate, Sandi-Jo was in financial services and previous to that Ayers worked in the travel industry organizing corporate and government travel.

This year, Sandi-Jo embarks on her second decade as a licensed REALTOR® in Victoria BC.

Kaye Broens, 2019 VIREB President, launched her career in real estate in 2007, when she began working as an assistant with Taddy Owen-Flood Ltd. in Victoria. In 2008, she took her aptitude and passion for the real estate profession with her to DTZ Barnicke, working as an unlicensed assistant until obtaining her real estate license from Sauder School of Business in early 2010. She then worked as a licensed REALTOR® with RE/MAX of Nanaimo for several years, moving to eXp Realty in 2019.


She has served several terms as one of two VIREB directors for the Nanaimo area and was chair of VIREB’s MLS® and Technology Committee in 2015. In addition to her VIREB membership, Kaye is a member of the British Columbia Real Estate Association, the Canadian Real Estate Association, and the National Association of REALTORS®, the trade association representing real estate agents in the United States.

In her spare time, Kaye is an accomplished home cook, twice invited to audition for MasterChef Canada. She competed in the Island Chef Competition at the Vancouver Island Exhibition and was the only amateur competitor in the 1st Annual Nanaimo Chowder Fest.

To relax, Kaye loves spending time outside with her husband and dog, Faraday. A champion Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Faraday has been number one in Canada in group points three years running. Together, they enjoy hiking, beachcombing, chasing sticks and balls, and swimming.

Kerriann Coady Is the Executive Officer of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of Vancouver Island. Since being named its Executive Officer in 2017, her collaborative approach has helped the association grow to 150 member companies across the island. Kerriann is experienced in both the private and public sector bringing business, public policy and technology together. Kerriann is a results driven professional with more than 10 years' experience impacting performance through the design and delivery of professional and technical training programs. CHBA VI is the leading advocate for the residential building industry and a leader in builder education. CHBA VI has a strong government relations program that voices its concerns with recommended solutions, on provincial, municipal and Federal housing policies that can affect the industry and housing affordability. 

 

These speakers will give a presentation about what is happening now and what they see coming in the near future.
