Urban Systems presents Rooted Cities: From Vision to Leaves
Catherine Berris will cover urban forest strategies and related policies, and why the urban forest is critical to our future, especially with increasing densities. Rossana Ho will describe urban heat island risks and show a case study on integrating urban forest values into a site design. Michael Vorhies will provide examples of urban design and tree protection projects along streets that enhance the urban forest, explaining the challenges of implementation.
Catherine Berris is a landscape architect and professional planner with expertise in urban landscapes, parks, and nature-based solutions. She introduced the urban forest strategy practice at Urban Systems and prioritizes community engagement in her projects.
Michael Vorhies is a registered landscape architect and certified arborist with experience in urban forest strategies, landscape architecture, mixed-use high-rise development, parks, infrastructure works, green infrastructure, and transportation projects.
Rossana Ho a landscape designer with experience in urban cooling and urban forest strategies in Australia. She has been building her knowledge in BC through her work with our team. Her process is evidence-based with a focus on meaningful engagement and is centered on human experience.
