Salary $115,000 - $137,000 annually

The Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate (OSRE) sets conduct standards for the real estate industry, oversees the Real Estate Council’s delivery of Council’s consumer protection mandate, and leads the ongoing reform of real estate industry regulation in British Columbia. OSRE also exercises statutory jurisdiction under the Real Estate Services Act, regulates the marketing of multi-unit real estate developments under the Real Estate Development Marketing Act, and approves strata plan schedules under the Strata Property Act.

Reporting to the Superintendent, this position is the chief operating officer for OSRE and the chief support to the Superintendent. It provides leadership to the policy and regulation branches of OSRE as well as leads the executive operations and corporate services for the organization.

The position directs significant consultations and communication initiatives with other government officials, industry stakeholders, other regulators and the public regarding policies and policy proposals. The position oversees the development of specific policy positions and directs the implementation of policy positions endorsed by the Superintendent. The position prioritizes the organization’s work to respond to risk of harm to the public, delivers short term results while maintaining a long term perspective, and maintains an ongoing focus on understanding and responding proactively to emerging industry trends and associated risks. Through positive relationships, the Deputy Superintendent strengthens the credibility of the regulator and influences industry behaviour in the public interest.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications for this role include:

• University degree in business, economics, law, or equivalent and five (5) years related experience; preference may be given to those candidates with graduate level education.

Related experience includes:

o Experience in a senior leadership role overseeing and directing regulatory and/or policy and oversight activities within the real estate or financial services sector (such as insurance, financial institutions, pensions, mortgage brokerages).
o Experience interfacing with senior government representatives, boards of directors, executive committees, CEOs and other senior stakeholders.
o Experience building organizational capacity and driving change through results-oriented performance management.
