Land Acquisition Officer
$73,855.42 - $84,134.34 annually

As the Land Acquisition Officer, your role is to negotiate with private landowners for the acquisition of land and/or interest in land to facilitate legal access to roads and rights of way for natural resource extraction and/or acquiring appropriate levels of legal interest in land for securing and protecting the Ministry’s capital investments. You will act as the primary representative for the Province with local and federal government representatives, First Nations, Industry, private landowners and other stakeholders to review, clarify and solve any issues or extraordinary circumstances with respect to all matters relating to the purchase or occupation of fee simple land. You will also manage the acquisition process including, but not limited to, legal survey of interest area, land appraisal, negotiation, registration, compensation, expropriation, drafting of legal agreements, land transfer and disposal of road rights of way. You will be a skilled negotiator, communicator and facilitator, able to understand the importance of using integrative negotiations to acquire interest in land in a legal, cost effective and timely fashion. Additionally, you will lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of complex projects by developing and recommending land acquisition strategies, which outline project goals, objectives, scope, deliverables, timelines, communications plans, resource allocation and performance measures.

Qualifications for this role include:

• Undergraduate Degree or higher in Urban Land Economics, Geography, Planning, Natural Resource Management, Public or Business Administration, Law or related discipline, plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting one or more of the following: real estate acquisitions, expropriations, land dispositions, property negotiations, or real estate appraisals; OR,
• Diploma in Urban Land Economics, Geography, Planning, Natural Resource Management, Public or Business Administration, or a related discipline plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience conducting one or more of the following: real estate acquisitions, expropriations, land dispositions, property negotiations, or real estate appraisals.
• Registered or eligible to register with the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI), Real Estate Institute of BC (RIBC), Senior Member of the International Right of Way Association (SRWA), or equivalent institute or association.
