Job Description / Duties
Position Summary
Oversee and manage all real estate development and re-development, and site acquisitions responsibilities for a number of projects and trade areas within the Portfolio. In coordination with Portfolio Leader, identify suitable sites for retail and mixed use development within specified markets, in accordance with Company’s current and future objectives.
Responsibilities:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
• Responsive to commercial development opportunities in accordance with the Company’s project plan approval procedures;
• Conduct site acquisition, either by directing an acquisitions specialist, an outside broker, or through direct contact with prospective vendors;
• Responsible for executing approved project plans through the coordination of, and teaming with, outside consultants, Land Development Associates, financial analysts, administrative assistants, Development Engineering, and Leasing, as well as through consultation with the Portfolio Leader. Land use approvals include: official community plan amendments, development permits, approvals for various commercial sites, zoning amendments and rezoning;
• Administrative functions including periodic project status updates in accordance with the Company’s project plan approval procedures, project update meetings, and project plan revisions or updates to Sr. Management and/or JV Partners.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Academic/Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Urban Planning, Urban Land Economics, or related field, and/or Professional Designation;
Required skills/Experience:
• Minimum five years of experience in a real estate development capacity;
• Experience in commercial land development is preferred; and experience in mixed use development would be beneficial;
• Demonstrable experience in seeking land use entitlements, site plan approvals, and building permits, preferably for a company whose primary business is commercial land development, or a related field;
• Managerial experience preferable, specifically in directing a Land Development Associate, managing a professional consultant team, stakeholders, and government department relationships;
• Must own personal vehicle and have a valid driver’s license as some travel will be required.

The Land Development Manager shall demonstrate entrepreneurialism and behave like an “owner” in carrying out daily tasks and responsibilities; demonstrating creativity and resourcefulness in achieving desired results. The Land Development Manager is expected to be a team player and work effectively with colleagues and associates in terms of input, sharing of ideas and working to achieve common goal.
