Managing Director, Policy and Oversight

An opportunity to join BC’s Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate

The Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate (OSRE) sets conduct standards for the real estate industry, oversees the Real Estate Council’s delivery of Council’s consumer protection mandate, and leads the ongoing reform of real estate industry regulation in British Columbia. OSRE also exercises statutory jurisdiction under the Real Estate Services Act, regulates the marketing of multi-unit real estate developments under the Real Estate Development Marketing Act, and approves strata plan schedules under the Strata Property Act.

The Managing Director leads the development and ongoing administration of the Superintendent’s Rules that govern real estate licensee conduct. This position is responsible for oversight of the Real Estate Council, including the establishment of reporting relationships and analysis which evaluates Council’s delivery of its consumer protection mandate. The Managing Director also leads the development and implementation of regulatory reforms contained in the report of the Independent Advisory Group, and on an ongoing basis, identifies emerging industry risks and regulatory intervention strategies to prevent harm to consumers.

Qualifications for this role include: Degree (preferably post graduate) in business administration, public administration, economics, law, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; five years of recent and related senior management experience in regulatory, governance, and/or policy development; leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary staff and overseeing professional teams; experience overseeing projects, mobilizing resources and developing and implementing strategic plans to ensure deliverables are met; experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders, elected officials and industry; and experience in budget management, procurement and conflict resolution.
