Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Director of Legal & Compliance, the Manager of Legal Services will lead the Legal Services Department staff in the fair, consistent and timely assessment and resolution of legal files, ensuring the public interest is met in the outcome.

The hallmarks of success of this role will be to lead and empower a team of committed staff, identify process improvement and modernization opportunities, and establish robust training and development programs for staff, all-the-while ensuring transparency for the legal process and its outcomes.

Qualifications / Required Skills

With a background in prosecutions, as well as policy development, review, and implementation, the Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Compliance & Legal Services and the Executive Officer in the development of proactive and efficient policies designed to enhance current and future operational capabilities.

An experienced legal professional, the Manager provides advice and guidance on the interpretation and enforcement of The Real Estate Services Act and other relevant legislation, and is responsible for the administration, processing and resolution of legal files. The Manager of Legal Services works with the Manager of Compliance and supports the Director of Compliance & Legal Services in the administration of complaint resolution, compensation claims, and suitability reviews, and provides expertise and leadership support for industry and stakeholder advisory groups as assigned.

The Manager of Legal Services will be an exceptional people and process leader who understands the value in mentoring his/her team in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration in support of RECBC’s values and principles. Protecting the public interest, improving industry standards, supporting stakeholder and partner consultation, fostering frank and open communications and seeking out cost-effective modernization of investigation, legal and business practices will be at the forefront for this position. He/she must be a progressive thinker with proven experience in process improvement, change management and empowered leadership.
