Job Description / Duties
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for originating loans, completing an investment summary that outlines the merits of the proposed transaction, issuing letters of intent and commitment letters to allow the transaction to be completed. The company’s Underwriting and Investor Relations department will complete the loan underwriting and liaise with the Investor, so that the loan origination officer can spend the vast majority or his or her time in the market place originating new loan transactions.
Specifically, the Business Development Manager will:
- Develop a marketing plan and a call program to make calls and arrange face to face meetings with potential borrowers
- Independently structure new deals and assist in underwriting loan summaries
- Work with account management and servicing department to manage a portfolio of loans through the supervision of loan advances, site inspections, and annual loan reviews
- Work with funding group to ensure loans are funded
- Recognize and pursue potential business opportunities with new and existing clients
- Complete various project and loan analysis to identify the loan risk and establish loan amount
- Complete cash-flow, IRR and underwriting model analysis to establish loan pricing
- Summarize all project details, plans, figures and analysis into a Loan Summary to be circulated to the relevant Investor Credit Committee for review and approval
- Follow up and help resolve any funding issues
The candidate should be able to initially originate $ 30 to $ 50 million per annum in approved loan transactions and increase these numbers substantially after having 2 – 3 years’ experience.
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Undergraduate Degree in Commerce or Business Administration, with a Major in Urban Land Economics/Real Estate, Finance or equivalent
- 1 – 2 years of related work experience in the real estate lending industry with an established network of industry contacts
- Related work experience as an Underwriter of either commercial mortgages or business loans
Knowledge of the commercial real estate marketplace in Western Canada
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and Word
Required Skills:
- Demonstrates drive, persistence and independent initiative as would be expected in a sales role of this nature
- Excellent organization skills, with an ability to balance multiple projects and a high volume workload, in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment
- Strong marketing and cold calling skills
